Description

ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR BILLEY, OF ELLENDALE, NORTH DA'KO'IA.
BRIDLIE.
Specification of Letters IPatent. Patgntd J 11119 27, 1911 Application fi1ed April 1, 1911.
Seria1 N0. 618,420.
T0 all whom it may conce1n:
Be it known that I, OSCAR BILLEY, a c1t1- zen 0f the United States, residing at Ellendale, in the county of Dickey and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and usefu1 Bridle; und I (10 hereby declare the f ollowing to be a f1111, clear, and exact descnption of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the sarne.
This invention relates to ha1ters and bridles, and it particularly pertains to a new and useful attachment for the halter, and t0 which attachment a bit may be connected for the purpose 01: converting the halter into a, bridle, and then by the remova1 of the bit the kalter Will be restored.
It is also an object of the invention 130 utilize the bit anal its reins, as 1neans f0r leading a horse, when the ha1ter is applied thereto.
Alt-erations may be resorted t0, in the construction of the minor detai1s of the device, provided the alterat-ions are comprehended by the c1ai1ns.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in perspect-ive, showing a halter with the attachment applied thereto, the same being constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the attachmentremoved. Fig. 3 is a sectional view 0n line 38 of Fig. 1.
Referring more especially to the annexed dmwings, 1 designates the halter as awho1e, which comprises the nose strap 2, the jaw straps 3, the head strap 4 and thront latch 5. The jaw straps, and the ends of the thront latch and headstrap are connected by the rings 6, While the nose strap is provided with a ring 7, which is connected t0 the thront latch by the strap 8. The ends 0f the jaw straps are provided with slots 9, through which the said jaw straps 3 pass, after being fo]ded upon thernselves, thus providing the loop 10 Which receives the nose strap. The jaw straps are folded to provide a 100p 11, in Whi0h abuckle 12 is arranged. By virtue 0f this buckle the attachment 13, which toget-her with the bit 14 constitutes the means for converting the halter into a bridle. The attachment consists mainly 01: a,
strap 15 having a loop 16, and provided with a plurality 0f apertures 17, wherby the strap may be acljusted with relation 110 the buckle 12. A ring 18 is provided, which is arranged in the 100 16. By virtue 0f the ring 18, the usua1 or1n of bit as shownat 14 nmy be connected thereto by the snap hook 19. As shown in Fig. 1 there are two of these attachments, one arranged on each side of the halten When only one side 0f the bit is connected to one of the rings 18, ehe reins 0f the bit may be utilizeu for leading the animal. A leather 100p 20 is provided, which is for the purpose of holding the attachment as shown, said 100p being secured to the j aw straps 3, one upon each side of the halten It Will be observed that the halter shown in the drawings is of the ordinary structure, there being no ring adjacent the mouth of the horse to which the bit may be attached, therefore it Will be observed thatby making loops 11 in the jaw straps 3, the buckles 12 1nay be attached, and subsequently the straps 15, thus providing the ordinary canvas or leather ha1ter without rings adjacent the 1nout-h of the horse with attachments to Which the usual bit rnay be connected for converting the halter into a bridle.
The invention having been sei: forth, what is elaimed as new und useful is:
l. In co1nbination, the jaw straps of a halter, buckles connected to the straps, straps adjustably connected t0 the buckles, and provided with rings at their lower ends, leather loops connecting the j aw straps and the sec- 0nd straps, saicl rings constituting means adapted to be connected by a bit.
2. In combination, the jaw straps of a halter, said jaw straps being turned into loops adjacent their upper ends, buckles secured in said loops, straps connected to the buckles, loops carried by the j aw straps and looping around the second straps, and rings carried at the lower end of the second straps adapted for connection to a bit.
In testimony whereof I have signed my nanne to this specifieation in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OSCAR BILLEY.
