Be it known that LOLIVER W. CLINE, of. Frohna, in the county of Perry and State of thereon, forming a part of this specication.

lhis invention relates to improvements in adj usting and fastening saddles or saddle-trees to accommodate them to the back of variouslyshaped horses, either large or small, or those that may be larger in the Withers or smaller in the flanks, or vice versa; and to this end the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will hereinafter be more fully described and specifically claimed.

In the annexed drawings, to which reference is made, and which fully illustrate my invention, Figure l represents a side view of my adjuster and fastener when fastened to the saddle-tree and girth with a ring and buckle, and Fig. 2 is a similar view with ring only.` Fig. 3 is a front view of the same.

A represents the saddle, and B the saddletree, both of which in their constructionare of the ordinary or usual form.

C G are'two short metallic straps, having one end each secured to the front and rear of the saddle-tree, upon each side thereof, their free ends being provided with rings D D, and through which passes and connects with said rings D D one single strap, E, having one end provided with a ring, F. This ring F, attached to the strap E, is intended to be movable between the rings D on the tree-straps C, and will have its position changed as the saddle is to be eased on the Withers or loins of the horse by being brought nearer to the one or other of said rings D.

The method of attaching and using 1n,y device is as follows: Place the ring F, which is attached to one end of the strap E, opposite the point on the saddle-tree B where the fasteningis desired to give support, with the inring F from the outside inward, which gives the strap E the natural turn upward to cause the inside of the strap E to face outward, and proceed with it to the ring D on the back part ofthe saddle-tree B. Pass the strap E through ring D from the inside outward, and return it to the ring F on the strap E, and pass the strap E through the ring F from the outside inward, and carry it thence upward above the ring F on the strap E, so as to include both the strap E and ring F, and bring it outward over the upper part of the ring F. Then carry strap E down through the ring H on the girth G from the inside outward, and return to ring F, as shown in Fig. 2, and again pass the strap E through the ring F from the outside inward, and carry the strap E downward under the lower part of the ring F, and by drawing the strap E down tightly the adjuster and fastener is completely and securely fastened, and that portion of the strap E extending below the ring F is to be used in fastening the girth to the adjuster and fastener, and the method of attaching the girth to the part of the strap l extending belowV will be indicated by the kind of girth used, though a girth with both a ring and buckle for attachment is best both for strength and convenience. When a buckle is used near the end of the girth, as shown in Fig. l. after the tie is made the `end of the strap E will be brought through the ring H, then back through the ring F, and then buckled to the girth.
