BRIDLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,807, dated March 31, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J onn R. M. CRAWFORD, of Boonville, in the county of Prentiss and State of Mississippi, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Bridles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bridle, showing the same in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bridle detached. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one end of the bit, showing the attachment of the bridle to the same; and Fig. 4 is a detail view, on an enlarged scale, of one of the connectinglinks.

The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.

This invention relates to bridles, and it has for its object to construct a simple, durable, and effective bridle of a single rope or leather strap in asimple and inexpensive manner.

with these ends in view the invention con sists in the improved construction and arrangement of details,which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A designates the rope or strap from which my improved bridle is formed, and B is the bit, which may be of any suitable construction, and provided at the ends with rings or loops 0 0, through which the ends D D of the rope or strap A are passed, the loop or central portion of the latter forming the rein E. After passing through the loops or rings 0 O the ends D D are passed upwardly, forming the headstall or cheek-straps F F, which are connected a short distance above the ends of the bit with the ends of the rein by links G G, which are flattened, so as to clasp the parts of the rope or strap held thereby. The upper ends of the cheek-straps meet on top of the head, where they are connected by a link, H, whence they pass forwardly to the brow, where they are connected by another link, I. The ends D D then extend downwardly and rearwardly around the ears, below which they are connected with the cheekstraps by links J "J and around the neck of the animal, below which they are connected by a link, K, so as to form the throat-latch.

The operation and advantages of my improved bridle will be readily understood from the foregoing description, takenin connection with the drawings hereto annexed. It is simple in construction, being made of a single piece or strap, combined with the bit and connectinglinks. It is readily adjusted as to size, and it is strong and durable. When constructed of rope, the ends of such rope should be provided with' thimbles, as shown at L, in order to prevent raveling.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States v A bridle consisting of a bit having rings or loops at its ends, and a rope orstrap having its central portion formed into the rein, and having its ends passed through the rings of the bit, and connected above the loops of the bit by means of links with the portion forming the rein, thereupon passed upward to form the cheek-pieces, connected at the crown by alink, passed over the brow and connected bya link, passed to both check-pieces and connected to the same by links, passed under the throat to form a throat-latch and connected bya link. and provided at the ends with thimbles, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
