Description

D. STERN.
HAT.
APPLIUATION FILED DEO. 1, 1910.
Patented June 20, 1911.
WITNESSES 1-E NofRls PETERS ca. wAsHrNcw/l, n. r:
@es are DAVID STERN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAT.
Application filed December 1, 1910. Serial No. 595,034.
To 'all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID STERN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State ot' New York, have invented a new and Improved Hat, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates tohats, and it has for its object to provide one having a separate crown member, which may be readily mounted on a brim member, so that hats of many dilierent styles may be quickly provided by the select-ion of the desired crown member, to be used with the brim member which has been previously selected. Inasmuch as the brim member has a crown portion which is inclosed by the crown member it will be seen that the crown portion of the brim member may rest against the head of *the wearer, although the crown member which is mounted on the brim member may be of relatively great diameter. This may be done without greatly increasing the weight of the hat. It will be understood that the two portions of the hat may be trimmed separately, which is a great convenience to.
the milliner.
Additional objects will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, in which` Figure 1 is a perspective view of the brim member; Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the completed hat; Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the completed hat; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the crown member.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the brim member 5 has a brim 6, and a crown portion 7 the crown member 8 having an opening 9 therethrough, in which the crown portion 7 of the brim member 5 is normally disposed, as shown in Figs.
2 and 3 of the drawings. The upper portion 10 of the crown member 8 is bent inwardly and downwardly, as best shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings, and when the said crown member 8 is mounted on the brim member 5, the said inwardly and downwardly disposed portion 10 of the crown member rests against the side of the crown portion 7 vof the brim member to prevent any lateral displacement oit the crown member.
Hats may be manufactured in accordance with my invention at very little expense, and they will not only greatly yassist the milliner in carrying her stock and in trimming her hats, but they will also be of great convenience to the wearer.
It will be seen that the brim member shown in Fig. l of the drawings resembles Y hats as they are now constructed and that when the crown ring member is mounted thereon the crown is extended to form a hat of an entirely different style.
As Ithe trimming may be sewed to the crown member without damage to the brim member the crown member may be removed and the brim member with its crown portion may be trimmed and worn.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a hat a brim member having a crown portion and a crown member having an opening therethrough in which the crown portion on the brim member is disposed, the crown portion of the brim member being spaced from the crown member, and means t'or holding the crown member in position relatively to the crown portion of the brim member.
2. In a hat, a brim member having an annular crown portion, and a crown member having an opening therethrough, and an inwardly disposed upper portion, the crown portion of the brim member being normally disposed in the opening in the crown me1nber with the inwardly disposed upper portionof the crown member resting against the crown portion of the brim member.
3. In a hat a brim member having a crown portion and a crown member having an inwardly disposed upper portion, the crown member being adapted to rest on the brim member with its inwardly disposed upper portion in engagement with the crown portion of the brim member to prevent the lateral displacement of the crown member.
4. In a hat a brim member having a crown portion, a crown member of greater diameter than the crown portion of the brim member and having an inwardly disposed circular iange portion, the edge of which is bent downwardly, the crownmem- In testimony whereof I have signed my ber being normally spaced from Jche Crown name to J@his specification in the presence of J plo'rt-ilpn of the borim nember ard reting og two subscribing witnesses. t e rim mem er, t e inwar y ispose circular flange portion of the crown member DAVID STERN' normally engaging the crown portion of the brim 'member -to prevent lateral displacement of the crown member.
