JAMES A. ROU'SH, 0F HOIVIER CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
MIN ER S LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February '7, 1911.
Patented June 20, 1911. Serial No. 607,045.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. RoUsI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Homer City, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful IImprovements in Miners Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in miners lamps or lamps of a like nature wherein a solid fuel is required and the object of the invention is to provide means whereby the fuel may be liquidized so that the same will readily feed to the wick spout.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a central transverse sectional view through a lamp constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the corrugated tube and plate con nected therewith.
In the drawings the numeral l designates the lamp. This lamp is of the ordinary construction and is provided with the usual wick tube 2.
The numeral 3 designates a corrugated tube adapted to be positioned within the wick tube of the lamp. This corrugated tube 3 is constructed of some suitable heat conducting material, such as copper or the like. The lower portion of the tube is integrally formed with a plate l which is adapted to rest upon the bottom of the lamp l. This plate L is also constructed of some heat conductive material and is preferably provided with legs 5 whereby the same is sustained a suitable distance above the Hoor or base of the lamp 1. The plate A is also preferably corrugated and the object of the corrugated tube 3 as well as the corrugatedl plate 4 is to provide means for concentrating the heat which is delivered to the said tube and plate through the medium of the wick 6 when the latter is lighted.
I am aware of the fact that devices of a similar nature have already been patented, but in most instances the said devices are not effective, for the reason that sucient heat is not delivered to the solid fuel within the lamp proper to melt the same and to allow the fluid to iow freely to the wick to saturate the same.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the simplicity of the device as well as the advantages thereof, will, it is believed, be apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the improvement as it appears to me, changes in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claims may be made, if desired.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is
The combination with a lamp provided with a wick tube, of a corrugated tube adapted to be inserted within the wick tube of the lamp, a corrugated plate adapted to be arranged within the body of the lamp, and connected with the lower end of the corrugated tube, the said plate being provided with feet adapted to contact with the lower bottom of the lamp, the said plate and tube being constructed of heat conducting material, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. i
In testimony whereof I afHX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. ROUSH.
