OIL-BURNER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Join: S. Honors, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in oil burners and has for its primary object to provide a burner which will beof simple construction and operation and highly efficient in use.
Another object is to provide a burner having an upper portion formed with the vaporizing chamber while the body of the burner forms the lower wall or bottom of the chamber and has inclined passages leading from the chamber to the under face of the body of the burner.
A further object is to provide an oil burner of this character in which the lower portion or base will be provided with a drip channel along its opposite edges to receive any surplus oil dropping from the burner proper, thereby preventing the oil from going past the lower portion or base of the burner.
A still further object is to generally im prove and simplify the construction and operation of burners of this character and increase the efficiency of the same.
With the above and otherobjects in view, this invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through the complete device; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow; Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow; Fig. t is a horizontal cross-sectional view on the line 'l4: of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow; Fig.5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow; and Fig. 6 is a plan view with parts broken away and others shown in section, said view showing a modified form of the invention.

stantially oblong in general outline, and having its under face convex, as will be clearly seen by referring to the drawing. The burner proper has a central opening 2 and is secured around said opening to the upper end of the oil feed pipe 3. The burner proper has a plurality of spaced oil conducting passages 4 along its opposite longitudinal edges and inclining from the upper face of the burner proper outwardly toward the longitudinal edges of said burner proper, thereby conducting the oil toward the longitudinal edges of the burner, as said oil reaches the under face of the burner proper.
The burner proper 1 has the vertical passages 5 at its opposite corners to accommo- (late the bolts 6 which are also extended through the corners of the upper member 7 to secure the burner proper 1 in the bottom of the same, it being understood that the upper member 7 has a vaporizing chamber 8 formed therein above the burner proper 1, a portion of the member 7 being also cut away to fit the burner proper 1, whereby the burner proper 1 may be counter-sunk in the lower portion of the same. It will be understood that nuts 9 or other suitable means are secured upon the bolts 6 to securely hold the burner proper 1 within the lower portion of the upper member 7 It will also be understood that the vaporizing chamber 8 is of such size that the upper ends of the oil passages 1 open into the same.
The lower end of the oil feed pipe 3 is threaded into the lower member 10 which may be termed the base member of the burner and has its bottom or lower wall slotted, as shown at 11. The bottom or lower wall of the member 10 is also provided with the longitudinal drip channels 12 extending along the side thereof by depressing or cutting away this portion of the upper face of said bottom or lower wall.
It will be understood that the main oil feed pipe 13 is secured in the lower end of the oil supply pipe 3, said main oil supply pipe 13 being connected wit-h a suitable tank or other source of supply (not shown).
In Fig. 6 of the drawing, I have shown a modified form of my invention, in which the burner proper 1' is of circular form and is suitably secured in the lower portion of an upper burner member 7 which is also of circular form in general outline, said burner proper 1' and upper member 7 being other wise of substantially the same construction as in the preferred form,'said burner-proper being provided with the inclined oil passages 24 having their upper ends opening into the vaporizing chamber 8 and the burner proper 1 being secured in the upper member '7 by the bolts 6 extended through the uppermember 7 and through the vertical passages 5 in the burner proper 1. In this modified form, the oil supply pipe 8 has its upper end secured to the burner proper 1 around the central opening 2, while the lower end of the pipe 3v is threaded in the lower orbase member 10, said member 10 being provided with. a circular drip channel 12 in its lower or bottom wall beneath the oil conducting passages 4. The main ,oil supply pipe 19/ is secured inthe bottom end of the pipe 3.
It will be clearly apparent that while I have shown and described the burner as being of rectangular form or of circular form, it may be any other suitable form for various types of heating and cooking stoves and will be highly efficient and effective in use and any desired changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the various parts within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages of the same.
