To 0% whom it-may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD CLARK WEST,

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of an ordinary pit or mining lamp provided with my improved protector, which is constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan View of the base of the lamp,
showing the manner in which the lower end of the protector is attached in position. Fig.
3 is a perspective view of the protector detached from the lamp.
To put my invention into practice with a miners lamp a of ordinary construction, I provide a strip of spring metal I) and attach one end to the spout c ashort distance above the base of the same and the other extremity beneath the base of the lamp in such a manner that an open space will be formed between the base of the spout and the protector, as shown at Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The advantages of this protector are the protection to the base of the spout and to that portion of the bottom immediately below, which will be recognized by any practical miner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- A miners lamp provided with a protector which consists of a strip of spring metal secured to the bottom of the lamp passed around the rim at the front thereof and secured to the lower portion of the spout, substantially as described.
