UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY L. LANG AND GEORGE KENNARD, OF STAU'NTON, VIRGINIA.
HOLDER FOR' WATCHES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY L. LANG and GEORGE KENNARD, of Staunton, inthe county of Augusta and in the State of Virginia, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Holders for Watches; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The object of our invention is to provide a watch or other time piece holder or carrier adapted more especially for attachment to the steering wheels of automobiles, aeroplanes, etc., which though simple and inexpensive to manufacture, will, nevertheless, securely retain or hold the time piece even under the trying conditions of the particular use noted; will permit the easy removal of the time piece when desired; and which will so support the time piece that its operation will not be stopped or its accuracy impaired by reason of the motion and vibrations of the car.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a top plan view of a steering Wheel equipped with a watch held by a carrier, constituting one embodiment of our in vention; and Fig. 2 is a detail view in perspective of the carrier alone.
The embodiment of our invention, which We have selected for illustration, is designed for holding an open face watch, and it comprises watch-engaging and attaching elements. The watch-engaging velements include a triangular shape plate 4 having at each of two corners curved watch-engaging lingers or clips designated 6 and 7, respectively, which converge toward each other; and an L-shape, or angle shape strip or bar having a watch stem engagingmember lthat is split and formed into a recess 1a for the reception and engagement of the stem, and

whose base member 2 is slotted to straddle a securing screwthat passes upward through the plate 4, the purpose of the slot being to permit movement of the stem-engaging member 1 toward and from the clips G and 7 and springing its stem into engagement with the recess la; and removing it means merely reversing such operation. The base member 2 lies below the plate 4 and the plate 4 is attached to one of a pair of clips 8 and 10, respectively, that form the attach ing member and are adapted to engage a steering wheel arm or spoke and be clamped thereto by means of screws 9 and 11, respectively, that engage threaded holes in the clip 8 and passes freely through holes lOa and 10b in the clip l0.
It will be understood that our invention, besides being" embodied in the particular construction illustrated and described, can be embodied in other forms.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is A time piece holder or carrier comprising means for attachment to suitable support, and two watch-engaging members, one consisting of a plate having time-piece engaging clips or fingers spaced apart to engage the time piece at separated points, and an L-shape bar having one member passing beneath said plate and slidably connected therewith, and its other member split to engage the stem of the time piece.
In testimony whereof, we have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
