To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED A. PUTNAM, a citizen of the .United States, residinglat Melrose, county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Tag-Holders for Shoe-Racks, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanymg'drawing, is a as lasting, sole leveling, stitching, etc. It

often happens that the lot of shoes on some particular rack requires some special instructions concerning their manufacture, and it is now the common practice to place upon a rack containing a lot of shoes which thus need special instructions a tag containing such instructions.

It is the object of my invention to pro vide a novel tag-holder which can be quickly secured to or removed from the rack and which will be held firmly in its position .when applied to the rack.

Referring now to the drawings wherein I have shown one embodiment of my invention,Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoerack to which my. 1mproved tag-holder is to be applied; Fi 2 is a side view on an enlarge scale of the tag-holder; Fig. 3 is a section on the line w-w, F' 2 Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the tag-holder support.

My improved tag-holder is made from a piece of wire and is shaped to form the resilient stem 4 having the clip ortion 5 at the u per'end thereof and the aterally-extended arm :7 at the lower end thereof. The clip portion 'can be-conveniently formed by bending the end of the wire into a coil, as shown m Figs. 2 and 3 between the turns of which the tag or label 6 may be inserted.

This su porting member may be made of sheet meta and 1s formed at its lower end with the eye or hinge portion 9 into which the laterally-bent arm 7 may be inserted, and it is also formed at its upper end with the catch 10 which is adapted to en'- gage the stem and hold it in proper position- This catch 10 may convenlently be formed by bending the upper edge of the sheet metal supporting member 8 to form the flange 11, and then shaping said flange to form the catch. The catch stands substantially in line with one end'of the hinge portion 9, as best seen in Fig. 2.

The supporting member 8 is intended to be firmly secured to the rack and whenever it is desired to apply a tag or label to the rack, the operator takes a wire holder 4 and inserts. the .arm 7 into the eye 9 while the stem is in the dotted line position Fig. 3, and then said stem is swung into the vertical position shown in full lines Fig. 3. In movmg into the vertical position, the stem snaps in behind the catch 10 and the resiliency of the stem holds it firmly behind the catch. The tag or label 6 with the proper directions thereon is then inserted in the coil 5. To remove the tag-holder it is simply necessary to swing the stem 4 to the left, Fig. 2, sufficiently to disconnect said stem from the catch 10 when said stem may be swung into the dotted line position Fig. 3 and then removed laterally from the eye 9.
