Description

Cntcd @gattini @met @Wina P. C. CLARK, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Lette/rs Patent No. 99,407, dated February 1, 1870.
IMFRVEIMENT IN OIL-CANS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1,1. C. CLARK, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Oil-Gan for Locomotives and Machinery; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description, to wit:
The nature of my invention consists in 'placing in the upper part or neck of the can a shaft, having for its bearings, on the one end,ia tube, passing through the can, and on .the other, a tube soldered to the inside of the can. Upon th end ot' the shaft, directly above the handle, is placed a small thumb-lever, and upon the shaft inside of the can is placed another arm, to operate the valve. From this arm, I run a valve-rod to work a small conical metal valve in the end of the spout tted and ground to a joint. The lower end of valve-rod has a thread cut upon it, with nuts to adjust its length. To the inside of the neck is soldered a little hanger, to fasten a spiral spring, which is attached to the inside arm, and holds the valve upon its seat.
And I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view.
Figure 2, a transverse section, showing the bearings for shaft;
Figure 3, the movement in detail.
rlhe small thumb-lever A is operated by the thumb, causing shaft B to rotate, inuencing arm C, valve-rod I), and valve E.
The spiral spring F, placed over arm O, opposes the motion given to the working-parts, and, upon being released, causes the valve E to close, so that the flow of oil or other fluid, may be intermittent or continuons, as may be desired, or as lever A is influenced by the thumb.
I do not claim the application of a valve to the spout; but
What I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Ihe combination and application of shaft B with thumb-lever A, and arm C with spring F and valverod I), hereinbefore described, and for the purposes set forth.
P. C. CLARK.
