Description
RQB. nossms. Draft-Tubes; for Soda-Fountains.
Patented September2,l87-3.
WirNI-IEEEE; INVENIUH.
RICHARD B. ROBBINS, OF ADRIAN, MICHIGAN.
IMPRQVEMENT IN DRAFT-TUBES FQR SGDA-FOUNTAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1&2,513, dated September 2, 1873; application filed April 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, R. B. ROBBINS, of Adrian, county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Tubes for Soda-Fountains, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to an improvementin draft-tubes for soda-fountains; and it consists in a ball or equivalent device adjustably secured to the end of the valvestem, so as to regulate the discharge of the water into the glass, causing more gas and foam, or more water and less gas, as may be desired.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional view of my invention; Figs. 2 and 3, enlarged detail views.
a represents the draft-tube, which consists of a long tapering tube, having a valve-seat formed in its upper end, in which the valve 0 fits, and which is kept closed by the pressure of the gas in the fountain. To the valve is secured the rod 6, which extends down through the tube and projects through the nozzle, so that the valve may be opened by pressing the bottom of the glass upward against the end of the rod. The rod is flattened at the point where it projects through the end of the tube, so as to allow a freer discharge of the water, and upon the end is formed a screw-thread, so
that the ball e or other suitable device may be adjusted nearer to or farther from the nozzle. By moving this ball upward nearer to ,the nozzle the water cannot escape so freely,
and as it does escape it is spread and scattered so as to produce a great deal of foam and froth. By moving the ball away from the nozzle the water is discharged more evenly, and produces more water and less foam. By this device each one can have his water drawn so asto suit himself. The end of the tube is notched so as to cause a larger opening'for the discharge of the water. By means of these notches the ball may be dispensed with, they serving the same purpose. By pressingthe bottom of the glass tightly against the end of the tube the glass will be filled almost entirely with foam, and by changing the distance between. the two more water and less foam can be obtained.
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The tube a, valve and valve-stem, and adjustable ball, or its equivalent, when combined to operate substantially as shown and deti scribed.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto affix my signature this 7th day of April, 1873.
RICHARD B. ROBBINS.
