To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THnonoRn N. JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boulder, county of Boulder, and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in NozzleHolders for Garden-Hose; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this speoiiication.

Vfy invention relates to improvements in nozzle holders for garden hose, my object being to provide a device of this character which shall be adapted to support the nozzle in any desired position.

The device consists of a plate of suitable length, adapted to be secured to the hose just in the rear of the nozzle, the upper extremity of the plate engaging the free extremity of the hose where the nozzle enters the latter. Pivotally connected with the forward extremity of the said plate, is a small rod which may be swung to occupy any desired angle with the plate. This rod may be held in any position of adjustment by a set screw. When properly adjusted, its lower extremity, which is preferably pointed, is shoved into the ground to such a depth as to give a stable support to the nozzle. The inclination of the nozzle may be regulated by the depth to which the supporting rod is caused to penetrate the earth.

The supporting rod where it is connected with the plate, is provided with a slot or elongated eye, whereby it may be adjusted to occupy a position parallel with the plate. It then may be moved longitudinally of the plate, whereby its sharpened extremity is caused to enter a socket with which the rear extremity of the hose plate is equipped.

Having briefly outlined my improved construction, I will proceed to describe the same in detail, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.

In this drawing: Figure 1 is a view of a section of hose, equipped with my improved device, the latter being shown in the folded position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hose, showing the holder in position for use. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the device shown in the folded position. Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on the line 4. 5, Fig. 1, viewed in the direction of arrow 4. Fig. 5 is a section taken on the same line, looking in the direction of arrow 5.

The same reference characters indicate the same parts in. all the views.

Let the numeral 5 designate a plate, whose inner surface is curved to fit the hose 6, to which it is applied. This plate is provided at its opposite extremities with clasps 7, adapted to engage the hose and fasten the plate securely thereon. To the opposite extremities of the plate, are applied transverse members 8, which project beyond the opposite sides of the plate and are formed into the eyes 9, with which the members 10, 12 of the clasp are connected. The central and lower part of the rear, transverse member 8, is formed into a socket, as shown at 13, to receive the pointed extremity 14, of the supporting; rod 15; while the forward transverse member 8, is composed of two parts or members 16, connected by a set screw 18, and spaced by the looped upper extremity 19, of the rod 15. The shank 20, of the screw 18, passes through perforations formed in the two members 16, and also through the slot 21 of the loop 19. The two members 16, when the set screw is tightened thereon, form a clamp, whereby the supporting rod is fastened in the desired position of adjustment.

When the device is in use, the clasp member 12, is passed through the cooperating member 10, and bent back on itself to form asecurin hook, whereby the clasps are tightly secured to the hose, and extend over the top thereof, above the plate 5. The sup porting rod may then be adjusted to form any desired angle with the plate 5 on the hose with which the plate is connected. The rod may then be easily shoved into the ground, since its lower extremity is pointed, until the nozzle occupies the desired inclination. When the device is not in use, the supporting rod may be moved forwardly, since its looped extremity slips over the shank 20, of the set screw, until its pointed extremity occupies a position forward of the socket 13. The rod may then be moved rearwardly, causing its pointed extremity to enter the said socket, after which the set screw may be tightened, causing the rod to maintain its folded position, with the sharp extremity of the rod completely covered and sealed. hen this is done, both the plate and the rod occupy a position parallel wit-l1 the hose, and form no obstruction to the handling of the same in the usual manner.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A device of the class described, comprising a plate adapted to be secured to the hose, one extremity of the plate being equipped with a depending clasp and the other extremity being equipped with a socket, a supporting rod slidably and pivotally connected with the clasp of the plate, the other extremity of the rod being adapted to enter the socket formed in the opposite extremity of the plate, the said rod be ing bent upon itself to form an elongated offset loop at one extremity, a set screw passing through the clasp and the elongated loop of the supporting rod for connecting the rod with the clasp, and for locking the same in any desired position, the connection of the rod with the clasp being such that when the rod is swung outwardly from the plate to its operative position, the loop is prevented from sliding in the clasp, the loop of the rod being arranged to permit of a limited degree of sliding movement of the rod when in a position parallel with the plate, for the purpose of inserting and removing the free extremity of the rod from the socket.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a plate of suitable length adapted to engage a hose, and curved to conform approximately to the curve of the hose, the opposite extremity of the plate having hose clamps, one extremity of the plate being equipped with two suitably-spaced, flexible, depending, perforated members forming a clasp, and the other extremity of the plate being equipped with a socket, a supporting rod slidably and pivotally connected with the clasp of the plate at one extremity, while the opposite extremity of the rod is adapted to enter the socket, the said rod having an elongated loop, a set screw passing through the perforations of the two spaced members and the elongated loop of the supporting rod for connecting the rod with the clasp and for locking the same in position, the said rod being adapted to be swung to a position parallel with the plate and to be moved longitudinally thereon when in such position for the purpose of removing and inserting the free extremity of the rod into the socket, substantially as described.
