COMBINED EASEL AND PHONO GRAPH-HORN TRIPOD.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 434,286, dated August 12, 1890.

To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, KENDALL J AMES MINOT, of Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Combined Easel and Phonograph- Horn Tripod, of which the followingisa specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved combined easel and phonograph-horn tripod. Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing my improved device folded up. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line a a: in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on line 1 y in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken on line 5 .2 in Fig. 1. Figs. 6 and 7 aredetail views of the fastenings of the bar-holding device, and Fig. 8 is a side elevation of one of the brackets of the easel.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The object of my invention is to construct a device which may be used for holding phonograph-horns of diiferent sizes at any desired height, and which also may be employed for holding a painting, or for the use of an artist.

My invention consists in the combination of a pair of cross-bars, a hinged brace for supporting the bars at any required angle, and an adjustable device for regulating the spread of the bars and of the brace, all as will be hereinafter more fully described.

The bars A A are pivoted upon the bolt B, which also clamps the block C to the rear bar A. The bars A A are prolonged above the pivotal bolt B, forming arms a a, in the upper ends of which are slots 1) for receiving the ends of the cord 0, the said cord being provided with knots at its ends for preventing it from sliding through the slots 1).

To the block 0 is hinged a brace D, which supports the bars A A in an inclined position. To the bar A is attached an ear d, having a key-slot 6 formed therein for receivin g the key-stud f, projecting from the curved notched bar 9. To the bar A is attached an ear h, provided with a stud 1 which is received in the notches of the bar g, and thus holds the bars A A at any desired angle. To the bar A, above the pivotal bolt 13, is attached a spring-catch j for receiving the end of the curved bar g when the device is folded up, as shown in Fig. 2. To the curved bar g is attached a slotted bar 7;, which is clamped to the edge of the brace D by a thumb-screw Z, passing through the slot of the bar. By means of this device the brace D may be held at any desired inclination. The lower portions of the bars A A are provided with holes on for receiving the shank n of the bracket 0, one such bracket being provided for each barA A. These brackets are used for supporting pictures for display or canvas for artists use.

When used as a phonograph-horn support, the cord 0 is stretched across the upper end of the easel and inserted in the slots of the bars A A, and the body of the horn is allowed to rest upon the cord, while its smaller end is connected with the phonograph in the usual way, or the body of the horn may be suspended from the cord. It is obvious that the support may be adapted to a horn otlany diameter, and it may be adjusted so as to hold the horn at any desired height.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a combined easel and"plionographhorn tripod, the combination of the bars A A, pivoted together and prolonged above their pivotal connection, the hinged brace D, and the cord a, substantially as specified.

2. In a combined easel and phonographhorn tripod, the combination, with the pivoted bars A A, of the curved notched bar pivotally connected with one of the bars, and the ear h, provided with the stud 2', attached to the other bar, substantially as specified.
