MAX KAUFMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PLAQUE-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1909.
Application filed December 15, 1908. Serial No. 467,616.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Max KAUFMAN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plaque-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved plaque-hanger which can be used for a number of different sizes of plaques, plates, etc., and which can be folded up into a narrow compass when not required for use.
For this purpose the invention consists of a plaque-hanger which comprises three members, two of which are pivoted and provided. with bent-over hook-shaped ends, the memhers being retained by fixed keepers at tached to a slide-piece guided in a longitudinal slot of the third member, and means for clamping the parts together after they are adjusted to the size of the plaque or plate to be displayed; the third or central. member is also provided with a bentover hooked upper part, and a suspension-ring attached to the rear-part of the third member.
The invention consists further in certain details of construction which will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a rear-elevation of my improved plaquehanger, showing the same in position for holding a plaque or plate, Fig. 2 is a frontview of the plaque-hanger, Figs. 3 and 4: are respectively a side-view and a vertical sec tion, and Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively front and rear elevations of the plaque-hanger as folded up.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the different figures.
Referring to the drawings, a a are the lower members of my improved plaquehanger and a the vertical central adjustable member of the same. The members a a a are provided at their outer ends with bentover hooks 72 h 7L2 which serve for taking hold of the plaque or plate at the circumference of the same. The central member a is provided at its upper rear-part with a suspension-ring 9, which is hinged or otherwise connected with the upper rear part of said member. The lower part of the central member is provided with a guide-slot Z) in which is guided the bent-up portion of a slide-piece having a threaded opening engaged by the threaded end of the thumb screw 7'. Two keepers f connected by a web (Z extending across the rear-part of the slotted central member are bent over the upper ends of the pivoted members a, (B, the thumb-screw f passing through a hole in the connecting web and registering holes in the upper ends of the members a, c and the slide-piece, the threaded end of the shank of the thumbscrew being upset, while the threaded part engages the threaded hole in the slide-piece so as to permit the clamping of the parts or the releasing of the same for placing them in proper position for holding a plaque.
When plaques of larger size are to be sup ported, the central adjustable member is then moved in outward direction and adjusted to the required size of the plaque or plate to be supported. The thumb-screw f is then screwed so as to clamp the parts in position. The plaque is then clamped at three points of its circinnferencc, two points at the lower part and one point at its upper part, and firmly held in position by the hook-shaped ends of the three members for the reason that the thumb-screw clamps all the parts firmly together. By the adjustable member plaques and plates of different diameters can be supported and suspended from the wall, the lower members remaining in all cases in their outwardly inclined position, the only shifting that is necessary being that of the central member.
Before applying the plaque'holder for use, it is folded into the position shown in Figs. 5 and 6, that is to say, the lower pivoted members are placed into overlapping position and the adjustable central member is pushed down in the longitudinal slot until arrested by the bent-up end of the slidepiece. In the folded position the plaqueholders take up but little room and can be more conveniently stored and shipped, being instantly ready for use whenever required. The small size of the folded up plaqueholder permits its convenient packing, and in this way the plaque-holder takes up less room in the show-cases, which is quite a consideration in view of the fact that the wire and other plaque-holders take up a great deal of space and are cumbrous in use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A plaquehanger comprising two pivoted lower members having bent-up hookshaped ends, a central adjustable member, means for sliding the adjustable member along the pivot of the lower members, and keepers carried by said pivot for holding all the members in position after adjustment.
2. A plaque-hanger comprising two pivoted lower sections provided with bent-up hook-shaped ends, a central adjustable member provided with a bent-up hook-shaped end, means for guiding the central member on the lower members, means for clamping the members and the adjusting means together after adjustment and means carried by the clamping means for limiting the out ward movement of the lower members.
3. A plaque-hanger comprising two lower pivoted members having hook-shaped ends, a central adjustable member provided with a hook-shaped upper end, a longitudinal guideslot in the lower portion of the adjustable member, a slide-piece movable in said slot,
web having laterally-extending hooked keepers and a central perforation, and a thumbscrew passing through the perforation of the connecting web, the slot of the central mem ber and the perforations of the lower mem bers and the slide-piece.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MAX KAUFMAN. iVitnesses:
