Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 9,1913.
Application filed September 12, 1912. Serial 110,720,052
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SYDNEY CURNow Vosrnn, a citizen of the United Kingdom of have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artists Easels, of which the following 1s a specification, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention relates to easels such as are used by artists and are cruciform, the cross bar being capable of a sliding movement on the main bar for the purpose of accommodating sketching blocks and the like of different sizes, the lower edge of the said blocks resting against the cross bar while the upper edge is held on a notched support movable on the main bar. The invention concerns particularly the method of mounting this support upon the bar.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows the whole easel, and Fig. 2 an enlarged view of-a form ofthe present invention, the bar to'which it is applied being shown by dotted lines.
In these drawings the notched support a is furnished with a slot 12' and stop 0. A screw (Z is passed through sliding bracket (3 and through the slot 1) so that the angle of the support can be regulated at will in relation to the bar it and fixed where required by tightening the screw (Z. The bracket which comprises the two side members is adjusted on the bar it by bolt and nut f in slot 9 which will when loosened permit the bracket to slide on the said bar. When not in use the bolt 0? is loosened and the support folded down upon the bar. Stop '0 prevents the support leaning too far back if under much pressure.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is I 1. An easel comprising a main bar having a longitudinal slot, a cross bar adjustable on said main bar, a notched support on said main bar, one end of said support extending through said longitudinal slot, means for adjusting the support, a stop on one end of the support, said stop having curved edges, the curved edges of said stop adapted to engage the underside of the main bar and restrict the movement of said support.
2. An easel comprising a main bar having a longitudinal slot, a notched support on the main bar, means on the bar for adjust ably supporting the notched support, said notched support having an ofiset portion, an enlargement onone end of the notched support, said enlargement adapted to engage the under side of the main bar for limiting the movement of the support.
3. An easel comprising a main bar having a longitudinal slot, a notched support opcrating in the slot, an adjustable bracket supporting the notched support,
holding the bracket in various posit-ions of adjustment, and means for forcing the side members together for clamping the notched support.
said bracket comprising side members, means for In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
SYDNEY GURNOW VOSPER.
