ATTACHMENT FOR WASHBOILERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LAWRENCE R. QUINN and ALBERT R. IRrrcHAED, citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of Newark, IVayne county, State `of New York, and the city of Rochester, Monroe county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Attachments for Washboilers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device, consisting of a single piece of sheet-metal, which can be fixed permanently to the cover of a washboiler and which combines the functions of a soap-shaver and a hook for hanging the cover upon the body of the boiler.
The invent-ion consists in the device hereinafter described, and defined in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a transverse section of a wash-boiler cover provided with a device embodying the present invention, Fig. 2 is a bottom view of said device and a portion of the cover to which it is attached, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 in Fig. l.
In the illustrated embodiment of the invention the combined hook and soap-shaver is formed, by suitable bending operations, from a single, straight strip of sheet-metal. This strip is secured to the inner surface of a boiler-cover of ordinary form, the cover being illustrated as comprising a body 1 with a lip 5 which depends within the boiler. I
The cover is shown as inverted, in Fig. 1, as this is the position in which the soapshaver is used.
The outer end 't' of the metal strip is secured, by solder or otherwise, to the inner surface of the lip 5 and its extremity is Specification of Letters Patent.

formed as a hook 6. This hook is used to hang the cover upon the edge of the boiler when the cover is not in use. The intermediate portion 8 of the strip extends inwardly 45 along the inner surface of the cover to form the soap-shaver, and the inner end of the strip is bent to form a foot 9 which is soldered or otherwise secured to the innersurface of the cover. The portion 8 of the 50 strip is inclined, transversely, to the surface of the cover, and is sharpened on one edge 10. The inclination aords clearance so that when a cake of soap is shaved against the edge 10 the shavings will pass freely be- 55 neath the shaver and collect in the cover, whence they may be emptied into the boiler.
IVhen the cover is in use bot-h the hook and the shaver are concealed within the boiler, but the device is always ready and convenient for use in the performance of either of its functions.
We claim:
In combination with the cover of a washboiler, a combined hook and soap-shaver consisting in a single strip of sheet-metal having an outer end formed as a hook and secured to the lip of the cover, an intermediate portion extending along the inner surface of the cover and spaced a short distance therefrom, and a bent portion at the inner end forming a foot secured to the inner surface of the cover, said intermediate portionl being transversely inclined to the surface of the cover and being sharpened at the edge nearer said surface.
