IMPROVEMENT IN' LANTERNS;
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pan of the same,
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, E. F. HAsKELL, of Sherman,

Figure 1 isa horizontal section of my improved lantern, and
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation ofthe same, taken on the line a: a: of lig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
I make the metal -part of the shell or case, which forms the three sides A B C, of one sheet, and strike it up in dies, so as tomake thev inner surfaces of allthese sides convex, as clearly shown in the drawings, and thereby the light ofthe lamp D, placed within, is diiused more uniformly about the room than when the said surfaces areplane.
E is the top, forming another reflecting-surface, and placed obliquely thereon, say, at an, angle of about Witnesses forty-five degrees, rising from the front, and serving to shed the rain, land to reect the light cast upon it back upon the side B, from which it isgiven oi to the room.
The front is arranged for the reception of a glass slide, when required, to protect the flame from the Wind. .a
`A cylindrical funnel, G, is placed in the top, for the escape of the product of combustion.
This lantern may be used for all lighting-purposes, whether to be carried in the hand or placed ou the walls of rooms. l
rlhe lamp D is shaped to correspond with theinte-y Having thusdescribed my invention,
l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent? 1. lhe convex arrangement of the sides' A B O of the shell or oase, made in one piece, substantially as specied. l l
2. In connection with the above, the arrangement of the inclined top E, having a reflecting-surface, all substantially as specified.
