To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRED L. VORDEM- EELDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Celina, in the county of Mercer and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in toilet combs of that class which are provided wit-h devices for removing from the teeth of the comb the hair that would otherwise cling thereto, and the invention has for its primary object a simple construction of comb of this character the cleaning attachment of which may be very cheaply manufactured and easily applied to the comb, the same being durable and etlicient in operation. And the invention has for a further object to generally improve this class of devices and to increase the commercial utility and desirability thereof.

With these and other objects in view that will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and then point out the novel features of in the appended claims.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a side view of a comb embodying the improvements of my invention; Fig. 2 is an end view thereof; Fig. 3 is an opposite end View, the cleaner attachment being shown in section; and, Fig; 4 is a detail perspective view of the attachment.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawing the numeral l designates a comb which may be formed of any desired substance or material and of any desired design, said comb being provided in one end tooth intermediate of the ends thereof, with a transversely extending aperture 2.

Adesignates my improved cleaner attachment. This is preferably formed of a loop of suitably strong wire, the same preferably embodying spring characteristics, the

cleaner comprising an end cross bar- 3 which is adapted to pass through the aperture 2 to pivotally connect the cleaner to the comb, and parallel side bars 4 which are designed to extend along the opposite side faces of the comb, as clearly illustrated in the drawing. The ends of the side bars 4 cont-inguous to the cross-bar 3, are angularly offset, as indicated at 5, and the opposite ends of the side bars 4 project beyond the adjoining end of the comb and are formed into a handle 6. ln the present embodiment of the invention, the handle is formed by coiling the ends of the wire, as clearly illustrated in the drawing. This end of the comb is formed on either one or both faces, with keepers in the form of protuberances 7, the same being spaced from each other and the side bar or the side bars being adapted to snap over the said protubera-nces whereby to hold the cleaning attachment in its inoperative position.

From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing` the operation of my improved comb cleaner will be apparent. In the normal position of the cleaning attachment, the side bars 4 lie along the opposite faces of the main body portion of the comb, being held in this position by the protuberances or other keepers 7, the offset formation of the side bars, as indicated at 5, insuring that the entire cleaning attachment shall be out of the way of the teeth of the comb when the latter is being used. In order to clean the comb of the hair and the like which might cling to the teeth of the comb after the same has been used, it is only necessary to swing the cleaner loop A in a direction from the base toward the ends of the teeth. This operation manifestly strips the teeth of the hair and dandruff, as the side bars 4 are so constructed that they will tend to spring inwardly toward each other and rub with sufficient friction against the opposite side faces of the teeth. It is also to be particularly noted that by Varranging the pivotal point of the cleaner A somewhere intermediate the ends of one end tooth of the comb and by offsetting the ends of the side bars 4 contiguous to the cross bar 3, as indicated at every tooth of the comb will be cleaned in the opeation of the cleaning attachment, the several teeth neXt to the end tooth where the attachment is pivoted, as well as those far away from said end tooth.

While the cleaner attachment itself can be very cheaply made out of a'lkpiece of spring Wire.
