' CONFECTION-GONE CASE,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1911.
Application filed April 21, 1910. Serial No. 556,774.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL E. lVALuvocnL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lN-IiSCOnSin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Confection-Gone Gases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The objectof my invention is to provide a ysanitary and convenient confection cone case, the arrangement. and construction being such that a plurality of cones containing cream, ices or the like may be conveniently supported therein while the saine are being filled, the case being thereafter closed so as to form a practically dust proof package, whereby the saine may be conveniently carried.
lilith the above objects in view the invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts as fully set forth hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents an elevation partly broken away and in section of a case embodying the features of my invent-ion, the case being shown with a series of cones adjusted therein; Fig. Q, an enlarged cross-section of the saine as indicated by line Q-Q of Fig. l, and Fig. 3, a
fiat view of a blank from which the case is formed, the blank being adapted Yto be folded as sho-wn in Fig. 1.
Referring by characters to the drawings 1 represents the bottom, 2 and 2, the sidewalls and 3 the top or cover of a rect-angular box which is preferably of a knockdown typev` the ends being formed by foldable interlocking flaps 2 and 2b, which latter flaps extend from the bottom section 1. The cover Bis provided witha flap extension l having a locking ear 5 that extends therefrom, which ear is adapted to engage a slit 6 in the side-wall 2. The lid is also provided with a grip in the form of aflexible cord 7, which is fastened in any suitable manner thereto. The bottom 1 is provided with one or' more apertures 8, into which apertures are fitted confection cones 9.
As shown in Fig. 1, the boX is preferably provided with a series of apertures of progressively decreasing diameters from the center aperture, by which arrangement the mouths of the cones when seated therein will be at ditte-rent elevations, whereby economy in the length of the case is obtained, while at the same time there is approximately an equal body of stock between each aperture, to insure rigidity.
The demand for ice cream cones or the like has become such that customers frequently purchase several of these cones atr a time and desire to carry the same distances from the point of purchase, which, under present conditions, is quite inconvenient, there being no package for this purpose in use. vWith my casing, when an order for a plurality of cones is obtained, it is a simple matter to assemble the same from the blank shown, the merchant then inserts the series of cones into the apertures, grasping the lower exposed end of the middle cone. This serves as a handle. for the package and the series of cones are then conveniently filled, after which the lid is closed and locked. The package being delivered to the customer, it can be carried great distances without inconvenience and at the same time insures the confection against contamination from dust or the like.
lVhile I have. shown and described a knockdown case as my preferred form of structure, it is obvious that the cases or boxes may be made in any other form, the essential feature being the arrangement of apertures with the bottom for the reception of one or more cones, the package being provided with a closure or cover, whereby the same is practically dust proof. It should be understood also that, while I have shown the cord or handle secured to the top of the casing, in some. instances the locking mechanism 5 may be dispensed with and the cord or handle can be passed under the bottoni of the package and utilized as a means for holding the cover closed, while at the same time it would serve as a bottoni support therefor.
I claim A portable cone casing formed -from a one-piece blank folded to provide a rectangular box having ends, side-walls, a cover and bottom, the bottom being provided with series of cone-receiving apertures varying in diu1I1ete1',wl1eI'ebyllie 111outl1s of adjacent in the county of MilW-Lukee und State of Confectlon cones seated thereln are dlsposed W 1500115111 1n the presence of two Witnesses.

In testimony that I claim the foregoing Gmo. W. YOUNG, I have hereunto set my hand ut Milwaukee MA1' DOWNEY.
