Description

J. G. REDLINE. Sad-Iron Heater.
Patented Jamil, 1870A uveutnr: Q@ ,7 Y, @fw
ilnitrrl tetre aient @Mira Lette/rs Patent N o. 98,629, dated January 4, 1870.
SAD-IRON HEATER.
l i The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To-all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, J oHN G. R'EDLINE, of Lanark, in the county of Carroll, and State' of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Sad-Iron Heater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specicatiomin which- Figure l represents a side view of my improved sad# iron heater.
- Figure 2 is a vertical central section of the same.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section of the same, taken ou the plane of the line x x, fig. 1.
. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
rIlhis invention relates to a new apparatus, which is\ to be applied to an ordinary stove, for the purpose of heating smoothing-irons.
The invention consists in the arrangement of a separate heater, which has its owniire, regulated by the draught of the stove, and which is provided with hinged slotted doors, to 'receive and retain the irons to be heated.
A, iu the drawing, represents a truncated pyramida vessel, witheight, or more or less, sides.
It is .made of sheet-metal, or other suitable 'mai terial, and contains within it anethr vessel, B, of equal height, and of truncated, conical, or other suitable form.
The space a between the vessels A and B is closed on top and bottom. i
Apertures b b lead to it from the upper part of B.
The sides A, or some of them, are open, andprovided With hinged doors C, said doors being hung at their upper ends. i*
Each door has a longitudinal slot, extending` some distance upward from the lower voutward bent end of tbe door. x.
The vessel B is open on top.
In its lower part is a pivoted grate, D.
The device is put upon one of the griddle-holes of a stove, and its vessel B filled with charcoal, or other fuel, up to the draught-holes b. A fire is then kindled from above, and B closedby the cover of the stovehole.
The draught of the stove regulates that in the heater.
Theirons are inserted by lifting the doors C with the points of the irons. The latterl are then put into the space a, their handles projecting through the slots of the doors, as indicated in iig. 2.
The removal and insertion of the irons are connected with no diiiculty, and the entire apparatus is simple, cheap, and readily operated.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters` Patent- A sad-iron heater, consisting of the vessels A B, and slotted doors O, the vessel B having the draughtholes b, substantially as herein shown and described.
` JOHN G. BEDLINE.
