Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,284, dated August 14, 1877; application filed To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J oHN B. WOOLSEY, of Bloomfield, in the county ot' Davis, and in the State ot' Iowa, have invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Sad-Iron Heaters; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature ot my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sad-iron heater, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. Y

In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal vertical section, of my improved sadiron heater'.

The body A of the sad-iron heater is made of sheet-iron, in the general form of such an iron, and is provided at the top with a rim, B, of circular form, as shown.

The body or box A is closed at the top by C, hinged by a rod or otherwise to the top of the rim B above the toe of the box. In this door is a central longitudinal slot, a, extending from the outer end of the door inward for a suitable distance for the passage of the handle of the sad-iron. On top of the rim B, beyond the heel of the box,

is hinged a bail, D, by means of a rod, b, as shown. The center of this bail forms the handle by which it is operated, and the two arms D D thereof extend under the door O, and are curved substantially in the manner shown in Fig. 2.

By pressing down on the bail Dits arms D Dl raise the door C, for the insertion and removal of the iron.

G is a handle attached to the box A.

This heater is intended to be used by placing the samein the hole of an' ordinary cooking-stove, the box A passing down into the same, while the rim B stove.

By the attachment of suitable strips on the under side of the rim B, the heater may be made to -t any-sized stove-hole by bending said strips, as required.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The hinged bail D, with arms Dl D', in combination with the hinged door C and heater A B, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
