Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE JOSHUA HORROCKS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE BASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,780, dated June 9, 1874; application letl Aprii e, 1874.
To all whom it mayl concern:
pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which the f1 gure there shown represents a vertical central section of a basket embodying.;` my invention.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of wire'baskets, render them less expensive, and facilitate the operation of making them; and to this end my invention consists in making the bottom in one piece of metahperforated to receive thewires, and made concave on its under face, so that they will not rest on the floor, the whole constituting a new article of manufacture.
In the drawing, A represents the bodyT of a wire basket. B is a hoop of wire employed to strengthen the basket, and to which are attached the upper parts of the wires which c onstitute the body. In baskets of this class another hoop or wire is usually employed to stiffen the bottom, and to this hoop the wires which constitute the bottom, and also the lower ends of those which constitute the body, are attached. In lieu of this lower hoop I employ the bottom piece C, made in one piece of metal. This piece is perforated to receive the wires of the body, as shown at a. The under face of the piece C is sufficiently con cave to prevent the wires from resting on the floor, as shown, the wires being twisted together after being passed through the perforations.
By perforating the bottom C in the manner* shown and described, the lower ends of the wires may be spaced withy facility, besides being readily fastened and supported above the door. The basket is also thus rendered, cheap, durable, and neat in appearance.
I deem it preferable, but not essential, to make the piece C of cast-iron. When the basket is made in the form shown the bottom piece may be made heavy enough to keep the basket in its proper position; but I do not here intend to limit myself to the form of the basket.
Having thus described my iiwention, what I claim as new, and-desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A new article of manufacture, consisting of a wire basket provided with the bottom piece C, made in one piece of metal concave on its under face, and having the perforations a o arranged therein near its edge, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
JOSHUA HORROCKS.
