Description

T. M. ELKINS. UHIMNEY HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 17, 1909.
IMZ'ZZ/Ziii l vM/nmow SNINCTON u c THOMAS M. ELKINS, OF DUFFAU, TEXAS.
CHIMINEY-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS M. ELKlNS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dull'au, in the county of Erath and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Im provements in Chimney-l-Iolders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp chimneys and burners, the object of the invention being to provide a simple, cheap, and practical means for holding a chimney upon a burner of any kind for the purpose of preventing the accidental tilting of the chimney, the de vice being adapted to be used in connection with any form of burner, such as an oil, gasolene, or electric light burner.
With the above and other objects in view, the nature of which willv more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a vertical diametrical section through a burner chimney, showing the burner in eleration and the means for retaining the chimney in place on the burner. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the chimney provided with a removable band. Fig. 4: is a diametrical section through the lower portion of the globe or chimney.
In carrying out the present invention as applied to burners and chimneys already nmnufactured, I employ an annular band 1, whiclnas shown in Figs. '2 and 3,is in the form of a split ring having the eXtren'iit-ies thereof turned outward to form lugs which are provided with openings for the reception of a clamp device 3 such as a screw or bolt whereby the band 1 may be secured tightly around the base of the globe or chimney indicated at i.
The burner a is provided with a suitable Specification of Letters Patent.

number of chimney-engaging members Z) and the diametrically opposite resilient chinmey-engaging members 6 are provided with depending arms 5 having inturned hooks G which are adapted to snap over and engage the upper portion of the side of the band 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, after which the chimney or globe is interlocked with the burner and prevented from falling or being knocked ofi the burner.
The band 1 may either be formed of wire as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or may consist of a flat strip of metal, as shown in Fig.
It is also within the scope of this invention to make the band an integral part of the globe or chimney as shown in Fig.4 in which such band is represented at 1 being in the form of an annular bead or shoulder formed on the outer periphery of the base portion of the chimney or globe and serving as a means with which the spring catches 5 engage in the manner shown in Fig. 3 to prevent the dislocation of the chimney.
I claim The combination with a burner and a chimney therefor, said chimney being provided with an annular band, the burner being provided with a plurality of resilient chimney engaging members having their body portions inclined toward the burner and their upper portions inclined a 'ay from the burner, said chimney members being provided with downwardly extending members. the said members having their upper portions bent to provide hooks and adapted to contact with the upper surface of the band of the chimney, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS M. ELKINS. lVitnesses S. E. \Vrmumson, T. J. SANDERS.
