Be it known that I, JOHN K. RIsHnL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Extension-Table, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to a lock for extension tables having a divided pedestal, and it has for its object to provide an improved device for securely holding the two pedestal sections together.

It is also the object of the invention to provide a locking device which is simple in construction, and which can be readily applied to any table of the kind stated, and which can be easily operated; and these objects are attained by a novel Construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

In order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing, in which,-

Referring to the drawing, 10 denotes an ordinary extension table of the divided pedestal type, the two pedestal sections being indicated at 11 and 12, respectively. On the top of each pedestal section is mounted a cross bar 13 to which the extension slides 13 are Secured. On one of the cross bars 13 is mounted a plate 14 having an upstanding ear 15 to which is pivoted a lever 16. On the inside of the pedestal, near the bottom thereof, are doVe-tailed or otherwise secured, plates 17, one in each pedestal section. To the bottom of one of the plates 17 is secured a metal strip 18 projecting therefrom, the projecting portion of the strip having a slot 19. To the lever 16 is eccentrieally pivoted a bar 20 having its free end cut on a slant to form a wedge 21 which is adapted to enter the slot 19, the slant being in a direction to draw the two pedestal sections together when the bar 20 is thrust downwardly. The bar 20 is carried by the cross bar 13 of the pedestal section 11, and the strip 18 is mounted on the plate 17 of the pedestal section 12.

l For the purpose of regulating the amount of draw of the wedge, there is provided a metal strip 22, secured to the plate 17 of the pedestal section 11, and projecting there-` from, and terminating in an upstanding portion 23 through which is threaded a set screw 2 1 adapted to engage one edge of the bar 20. The projecting portion of the strip 22 also has a slot 25 through which the bar 20 loosely extends.

In the operation of the device, the pedestal sections are drawn together upon Operating the lever 16 to thrust the bar 20 downwardly, and the sections are released upon moving the bar in the opposite direction. The amount of draw of the wedge is regulated by means of the set screw 2 1, the pivotal connection between the bar 20 and the lever 16 permitting adjustment of the bar for this purpose. The slot 25 of the strip 22 also serves to guide the bar 20.

The device herein described is extremely simple in construction, and can be readily applied to any ordinary pedestal extension' table. It can be easily operated, and it effectually serves to tightly draw the two table sections together, and to securely lock them in this position.

What is claimed is In an extension table having a divided pedestal, a cross bar mounted on the top of one of the pedestal sections, a lever pivotally mounted on said cross bar, a bar pivotally connected to the lever, and having a wedge shaped end, a slotted strip carried by the other pedestal section, the slot of said strip being entered by the wedge shaped end of the aforesaid bar, a slotted strip carried by the first mentioned pedestal section, the bar extending through the slot of the last mentioned strip, and a set screw carried by the last mentioned strip, and engageable with the bar to regulate the amount of draw oi' its wedge shaped end.
