PENCIL CALENDAR AND CLIP.

To all whom it may concern:

lie it known that I, MORRIS It. Mowirr'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peck, in the county of Sumner, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pencil Calendars and Clips; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a calendar and clip and more particularly to the class of calendars and clips therefor for use on pencils, pens or other writing instruments.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character in which calendar leaves may be interchangeably mounted upon a pencil, pen or the like so that the said calendar may be readily visible to the writer.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character in which separable sheets having indicia on both sides of each sheet whereby the calendar months may be carried by a pen or penoil in a convenient manner so as to be eX posed or made visible to the user of the pen or pencil.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character in which a clip is so arranged as to be conveniently carried upon a pen or pencil, so that a plurality of sheets containing the calendar months may be carried by the pencil, whereby they will be handy and readily visible by the user of the pen or pencil.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be readily and quickly applied to various styles of pencils or pens for convenient use by the user thereof, the device being simple in construction and inexpensive in the manufacture.

In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention which to enable those skilled in the art to carry the invention into practice, will be set forth at length in the following description, while the novelty of the invention will be pointed out in the claims succeeding the description.

Referring to the drawings by numerals 5 designates a lead pencil which is of the ordinary well-known construction having the usual ferrule 6 at one end thereof in the socket of which is mounted an erasive rubber 7 although it is to be understood that in lieu of the lead pencil there may be substituted a pen holder or other writing instrument, the pencil being shown merely for the sake of illustrating the construction and manner of mounting the calendar device as will be hereinafter more fully described.

The calendar device comprising a split wire ring member 8 having its end portions bent to form alining eye loops 9 and offset gripping spurs or fingers 10, the ring member 8 being encircled about the ferrule 6 at one end of the pencil 5 whereby the said member may be readily detached at will from the pencil.

Hinged to the eye loops 9 is a clipping jaw comprising a single strand of rigid wire preferably steel wire bent to form spaced parallel side portions 11 united at one end by an arcuate shaped end yoke portion 12, the side portions at their opposite extremities being bent upwardly at right angles thereto and then outwardly as at 13, one outwardly bent portion being inturned at as 14 and engaged with the other end portion by means of linked eyes 15, the said inturned port-ion 14 being passed through the eye loops 9 of the ring member and forms the pivotal connection for the clipping j aw of the device. This jaw when in closed position frictionally embraces sub stantially one half of the diameter of the body of the pencil whereby a calendar pad may be securely held thereon in a manner as will be hereinafter more fully described. The calendar pad comprises a plurality of sheets 10 preferably formed from paper although the samevmay be constructed from any other suitable material and these sheets each is printed on both of its faces with indicia of the months, days of the Week and days of the month .to provide a calendar sothat the aggregate number of sheets will contain ,at least 18 consecutive calendar months although the calendar period may be varied as required'to suit the purposes of the user of the-device. The'said sheets are placed one upon the other so that the under sheet will lie against the body of the pencil and on closing the hinged jaw it will securely fasten the said sheets in proper position on the pencil and at the same time will eli'ect the penetration of the gripping lingers 10 into the number of sheets so as to prevent thelatter from becoming longitudinally displaced or otherwise disarranged with respect to each other relativeto their normal arrangement when secured to and carried by the said pencil.

\Vhenever it is desired to turn anyone of the sheets or todismountthe same for any purpose it can he so turned by raising the jaw and lifting the outmost sheet whereby it will be readily removed from the gripping fingers thus freeing the same for the desired purpose.

1. In a pencil device, a jaw adapted to grip the pencil to hold a pluralitj of calendar sheets on the same, and a clip for pivotally holding the jaw on said pencil, said clip having means for holding calendar sheets on the pencil.
