To all'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HEBER F. LEARNA'RD,v of Mazo Manie, in the county' of Dane, and State of Wisconsinhave invented a new and useful Improvement in Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following s a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled inthe art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings; forming part of this specification.

My invention has for its object to improve the construction of tables for house or oice use; and

It consists in an improved construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter specified..

Instead of tenoning the ends of the side-rails into the legs, as in the common way, I` fit them into the dovetail-shaped rebates A, with the' outsides flush with the faces of the legs, as clearly shown in fig. l, and I make transverse dovetail grooves B inthe front faces of the rails, fitting thereto the angle clamp-plates C, provided with dovetailed tongues to vfit the grooves B, and shaped around the corners so as to be attached by driving from the top downward, after the ends of' the side-rails D are placed in the grooves A.4

These plates may be made very cheaply by casting them :of any preferred or'suitable metal, and make, in this arrangement, very strong and durable joints, not

affected' by shrinkage, aud capable of being readily detached for storage.

I connect the tops E to bars F, arranged for attachment tothe side or end-rails of the frame by thumb or other screws @arranged to he 'readily taken ont for separating the top and the frame.

H represents springs, which I provide in connection with the arms I, for supporting the leaves in a way to throw the springs out when the leaves are raised.

The said springs are connected at one end to the side-rails, and the free ends bear against the arms at a suit-able distance from the pivots on which the arms turn.

These clamp-plates may be made in any ornamental shape on the exterior surface, and may be galvanized, bronzed, or otherwise coated or plated.

I claim as new, and desire -to'secure by Letters Patentl. The table-frame formed of the posts, having the vertical grooves A and the rails D fitting therein, and

the angle-plates C provided with dovetailed,4 tongues fitting in corresponding grooves B iu said rails, all arranged as shown and described, for the purpose. specified.

2. In combination with the table-frame, constructed as described, the curved springs H, attached and arranged to operate the arm I, as shownand described.
