SUSPENDER-BELT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntqgfl J31}, 10, 1911,
Application filed March 5, 1909. Serial No. 481,414.
T 0 all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, SrLvnsrnn Nninn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved thispender-Belt, of which the follo ving is a tremity of the latter, and a suspender end carried by the snap end and adapted to be removably secured to the girdle.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable belt, which answers all the purposes of the ordinary belt, which is attractive and artistic in appearance, and which can be fashioned from various parts of an ordinary pair of suspenders.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views, and in which l igure 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of my invention in use; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section of a part of the belt.
Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that the girdle of the belt may be of elastic or inelastic webbing, depending upon the kind of suspenders from which the belt is fashioned. The girdle may be of various widths, colors, and kinds of ornamentation. The parts of the suspenders which are used in the belt include a snap end commonly so called, and comprising a strap or tongue of leather or like material adapted to be folded back upon itself and held folded by means of a catch of suitable form, the snap end being secured at the extremity of one of the suspender straps or members. The suspender end generally so designated, and used in the belt of my invention, is an elongated flexible member which is held intermediate its ends within the loop of the snap end, and which has at its extremities, button-holes, so that it serves for attaching to suitable buttrns on the belt.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I provide a girdle 10 which near one end, has an adjusting buckle 11 of suitable form, by means of which the length of the girdle can be varied to adapt it for use by different persons and to cause it to conform to different waist. measurements. The end 12 of the girdle, which forms a loop owing to the adjusting buckle, carries a link 13 at which is mounted the snap end 14. The lat ter has one extremity folded upon itself to form a loop to engage the link. The folded extremity of the snap hook is preferably secured in place by the shank 15 of a double spring catch button which has a button 16 proper, at each side that is, at opposite sides of the snap end, as is shown most clearly in Fig. 2. The extremity of the snap end remote from the link 13 has a catch socket 17 adapted to engage the corresponding button 16 to hold the snap end folded. The girdle has a similar socket 18 which receives the other button 16 and thus secures the snap end to the girdle. In this way the extremities of the girdle are removably fastened together.
The suspender end 19 which is of the usual form, and preferably has the extremities 20 fiat and expanded, is arranged withopposite sides of the snap end, as is shown most clearly in Fig. 1. The extremities 20 of the suspender end have button-holes 21 adapted to receive removable buttons 22 carried by the girdle. These buttons may be of any suitable form and serve removably to hold the suspender end in posit-ion. They are preferably staggered to render the appearance of the belt more artistic. The suspender end, like the snap end, is preferably fashioned from flexible leather or like material.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A belt, comprising a girdle having at one end a device for attaching to the other end of said girdle, and removably associated with said device means for attaching to said girdle at a point near said other end.
2. A belt, comprising a girdle having at one extremity a strap, a catch for removably securing said strap to said girdle near the other extremity of the latter, a looped member carried by said strap, and buttons carried by said girdle near said other end and adapted to have the extremities of said member secured thereto.
8. A belt, comprising a girdle having near one extremity a strap, said strap being doubled upon itself and having a double catch button, and being provided With a socket adapted to receive one of the buttons of said double button, said girdle having at its other end a socket adapted to receive the other button of said double button, a member carried in the loop formed by said strap, and buttons carried by said girdle near said other end and adapted to have said member attached thereto.
4. A belt, comprising a girdle of Webbing, having an adjusting buckle, a link mounted at one end of said girdle, a strap having one extremity received by said link and folded upon itself, a double catch button securing said extremity of said strap in a folded position, the other extremity of said strap having a socket adapted to receive one of said buttons of said double button, a socket carried by said girdle near the end remote from said link and adapted to receive the other button of said double button, a member carried by said strap and having its extremities provided with button-holes, and buttons carried by said girdle near said remote end and adapted to be received by said button-holes.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 4 two subscribing Witnesses.
