Description
J. A. ALBBRTONI & T. ZUPPA.
BOTTLE STOPPER PASTENEB.
Patented Dec. 13, 1910.
W I l i rl UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. ALBERTONI AND THEODORE ZUPPA, 0F AKRON, OHIO; SAID ZUPPA ASSIG-NOR TO SAID ALBERTONI.
BOTTLE- STOPPER FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN A. ALBERTONI and THEODORE ZUPPA, citizens of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle- Stopper Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle stopper fasteners, the object being to provide a bottle stopper fastener which is exceedingly simple in construction and one which can be manufactured at a very small cost.
Another object of our invention is to provide a Ushaped locking bail in connection with a cap for locking the cork over the mouth of the bottle.
With these objects in view, our invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification :-Figure 1 is a vertical section through the neck of our improved bottle showing the fastener in position. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan view of our improved cap, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the locking bail.
In carrying out our improved invention, we employ a bottle A of the ordinary construction having a neck which is cut away to form a shoulder B which is undercut to form an annular groove for the purpose hereinafter fully described. The sides of the bottle neck are provided with oppositely disposed vertical grooves B communicating with the annular groove of the shoulder for the purpose hereinafter fully described.
For looking a stopper in the mouth or on the mouth we employ a substantially U- shaped spring bail O which has reduced ends bent outwardly in opposite directions as clearly shown at C, said ends being slightly bent to conform to the curvature of the neck. In connection'with the bail,
we employ a cap D which is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 21, 1908.
Patented Dec. 13, 1910.
Serial No. 468,532.
a groove D to receive the loop portion of the ba1l and after the stopper E has been placed over the mouth of the bottle, the cap is placed over the stopper and the bail is then placed in the groove of the cap and the arms forced outwardly in the grooves of the sides of the neck and as they pass over the shoulder they will spring into the annular groove and be securely locked therein. It will be seen by this arrangement that the locking bail can be used for holding a cork when placed in the mouth without the cap as it is only necessary to force the bail into the cork so as to prevent it from slipping and then spring the'arms into the grooves.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that we have provided a bottle stopper fastener which is so constructed that the locking member can be easily and quickly placed into position to hold the stopper or detach it when it is desired to remove the same.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a bottle stopper fastener, the combination with a bottle neck having an annular shoulder undercut to form an annular groove and provided with oppositely disposed vertical grooves, of a stopper adapted to be arranged in the mouth of said bottle, a semi-circular shaped cap arranged on said stopper having an annular groove in its curved face, a substantially U-shaped spring locking bail arranged in said groove and the grooves of the shoulder, said bail having its ends bent outwardly in opposite directions and slightly upwardly adapted to fit within the undercut portions of the shoulder of the bottle.
