Description

No. 873,646. PATENTED DEC. 10, 1907. G. A. WILLIAMS.
BOTTLE GAP FASTENER.

STTES ATENT BEIGE.
GEORGE ALBERT WILLIAMS, OI? NEWCASTLE, INDIANA.
BOTTLE-CAP FASTENER,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application filed March 12. 1907. Serial No. 362.055.
at Newcastle, in the county of Henry and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Bottle. Cap Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle or jar caps andmore particularly to means for fastening the caps upon the bottle or jar so that it can be easily and quickly attached or detached Without the use of an instrument.
With this and .other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification:Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bottle cap secured on the mouth of the bottle. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevational view. Fig. 4 is an inverted plan view of the cap and fastener in a locked position, and Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of the cap and fastener in an unlocked position.
Referring to the drawing A indicatesthe mouth of a bottle upon which my improved cap B, which is provided with the usual packing B is adapted to fit and close the mouth of the bottleJThe exterior of the upon themselves over a split rin 'O, whichalmost completely encircles the sides of the cap, having outwardly extending ends, which are bent to form hooks C. The segment B between the ends of the ring C, 1s
formed larger than the segment'l? and is bent upwardly upon itself to form a bearing sleeve B for the purpose hereinafter fully described. 7
A lever D is employed for drawing the ends of the ring together to contract the sides of the cap, and. consists of a U-shaped wire frame, the free ends of which are twisted upon themselves to form a handle D.
of the bottle. .are curved outwardly so that when the lever The parallel members of the frame diverge from a portion of the length adjacent their closed ends of the frame, and are bent back upon themselves to form converging rings "D over which the hooked ends C of the ring C are secured. The rings bear against the hearing sleeve B and theshoulder A so that the lever can be readily Worked up and down so as to contract the cap on the mouth The parallel bars of the lever is thrown downwardl the curved portions will fit over the shoul er A the hooked ends of the ring traveling over the converging rings will be drawn together so as to contact the sides of the cap in the groove on the beveled side of the shoulder which will draw the cap down over the mouth of the bottle.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bottle or jar closure comprising a cap having yielding sides rovide'd with a bearin sleeve, a split ring oosely mounted in the ower ends of the sides provided with hooked ends, and a lever provided with con verging rings mounted on the hooked ends of said ring, bearing against said bearing sleeve.
'2. A bottle or jar closure com risinga cap having s lit sides, one of whic is bent to form a vided with hooked ends, and a lever formed of a D-shaped: wire frame bent to form conhaving its free ends twisted upon itself and its closed ends bent back u on itself to form converging rings on which t 1e hooked ends of the lever operate, said rings bearing against said bearing sleeve.
