gan, haveinvented a new and improvedPadlook; and I do hereby'` declare that the following is a full, clear, and 4exact description thereof, whieh will enable others skilledin the art to 'make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,'forming partj ot' this specification.

The object of this iinventionis to provide a simple, cheap, and etlicient constructionand arrangement of the locking and operating-parts of padloeks.

L represents a key-hole guard-plate. `As manyl of these tumblers may he used as required,"and the part-s thereof against which-.the key l l works may be in any irregular order, to make it diiiiy cult to fit a key, or other device, for picking the lock;

and the tumblers are so arranged, relatively to the arm Ii, and a stud, M, of the ease, or other stop, that theynrust all be brought fairly down against t-he said stud before the arm will be permitted to be thrown up g by the spring G, and this can only be done by a key exactly fitted.
