Description

time
Wetten m- MONROE B. FOO'IE, OF NORTHAMPTON, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELI", WILLIAM M. GAY- LORD, AND E. N. FOOIE, OF NEW ENGLAND VILLAGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
I Letters Patent No. 84,484, dated Decembm` 1, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-LOCKS.
I uw@ The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To (all persons to Iwhomy these presents may emne Be it known that I, Mosnon B. Foo'rn, of' Northampton, in the county ot' Hampshire, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Locks for Doors; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following speeitieation, and represented in the accompanying drawh'igs, of which- Figure. l exhibits a view of my improved lock asit appears with the cap of its ease removed from the rest of the ease.
Figure 2 is an inner-sideview of such nap.
Figure Sis a transverse section ofthe lock.
Figure -1 is a side view of its key.
The body A of the case is cylindrical, the cap shown in figs. 2 and 3, at b, constituting part of such body. This cylindrical body projects from a plate, e, which, when the loek is let into a door, is to be fastened to the door by sere-ws;
The ease contains a slotted bolt, B, it having a reetangular slot made through it, as shown at (l. Projecting down from the upper side of the slot is a rib, e, provided with a triangular-shaped stop, j, and also with anotch, g, the two being formed and arranged in manner as represented.,
The key-ho1es of the case are shown at h t.
.Figure 5 exhibits a top View, and
Figure o', a rear elevation of the bolt.
Figure 7 is a rear end view of it.
A spring-catch, 7.', formed as shown in top View in Figure S, projects from the rear end of the lock-ease, and bears against the stop j, and serves, with such stop, to hohl the bolt in its advanced position. They also keep the bolt, when back, from being advanced, except by the key.
A lever or tumbler, I, pivoted to the stop j, or turning vertically on a pin, Im., projeeting therefrom, has its longer arm extended over the key-holes. Vhen the key is turned, for the purpose of throwing back the bolt, it will first bear against the longer arm ofthe lever, and turn the said lever on its fulcrnm, so as to cause the shorter arm to bear upon and depress the spring-catch, in order that the key, while acting against the rear side of the notch of the bolt, may force back the bolt.
I claim the combination and arrangement of the lever lwith the cam and stop j, the spring-catch k, and
with the slottedbolt and its case, substantially as de scribed.
MONROE B. FOOTE.
