ROBERT S. DUN N IN G, OF FALLI RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS. Lewis Patent No. 89,641, dated May 4, 1869.I
IMPROVED KEY-ASTENER.
The Schedule` reenerto in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be' it known that I, ROBERT S. Dumme, of Fall River, in the county of Bristol, and State of Mass'af chusetts, have invented a new and improved Key- Fastener, for preventing burglars from entering lodging-rooms, by turning or removing keys whenlcft in the locks; and I` do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists in a metallic bar, perforated with holes, a bolt, and a pin. The bar is aixed in the look, under the key; the bolt passed through the bow of the key, and also through the bar. The head 'of the bolt rests on the bow of the key. The piu secures the bolt in the bar. Y
Figure l is a perspective view of a door with my inventionapplied to the loek.
Figures 2 and 3 are sectional views of the bar. Figure 4 is a perspective view of the bolt. Fig. 1. A1 is the door. B1 is the .key in the lock. i O is the bar, aixed in the lock, under the key.- D is the bolt, passing through the bow of the key, and also through the bar.
E is a pin, passing through the bolt, under the Fig. 2. A2 is the portion of the bar which enters the lock.
B, the part which projects, showing the holes through which the lower part of the bolt passes.
Fig. 3 is a proile view of thebar.
A8 isthev part which enters the lockI B3, the part which projects. y
The bar is curved, to accommodate it to keys which do not have bows, but disks. When such keys are used, the bolt is placed between the disk and the door.
Fig. 4 is the bolt, shown by D' in fig. 1.
The door being closed and looked, and the bow of the key lying horizontal, as herein shown; the bar O', fig. 1, being inserted inthe lock below the key, and the `bolt D', fig.' 1, and pin E', fig. 1, axed, as also shown,
its novelty and utility will be apparent without further specification.
I do not claim any device previously invented or patented, for fastening keys; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to seeure by Letters Patent, is-` The key-fastener, constructed and applied substantially as herein set forth.
