HARRY M. `HtiiNnMAN. or SANl FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.

Moggi-.
-IMPRovnMnNTHiN FASTBNINGS Fon Nncx'rms.
The Schedule 'referred ton these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Toyrall whoin it nwylcon'cem.- y
Be itknow11= tl1at I, HARRY M. HEIN'EMAN, of San Francisco, California, have invented an Improvement in NecktieFastenings;` and 'I do hereby declare the followingt'obe a full, clear,`and exact description of the saine.
My invent-ion relates to that class of ties, scarfs, br
bows vthat is retained in front of a collar by an elastic loop, or otherwise; and
My invention `consists in a fastening-device, fully described hereafter, which will retain tie or scarf, in connection with the collar, should the button or stud by which the collar is secured to the shirt become de-v tached,`the said device being simple, inexpensive, and less liable to get out of order than the fastenin gs ii'su'ally employed. g i f t ln order to enableothers'skilled inthe art to make 'my invention, lrwillnow proceed to describe the oonstruction of the saine, reference being had tothe'accompanying drawing, the figure in' which is a back perspective view of aneckte, with my improved fastening-device. v
,To a bo\v,iscarf, or tie, A, of any suitable material and form, or `to a holder, `.to which such bow or scarf is applied, is connected a cord or loop, a, and to this cord is secured, in' the present instance, a bar, b, of
rubber, ivory, brother sui-table material. 5 v
The ordinary ties or tie-holders, adapted for being secured in front of a collar, are generally provided with loops of elastic cord, by which they are connected to the-button or studlto which the collar is attached.
This mode of fastening is objectionable, as the ties are disconnected from the-collars, and are frequently lo'st when the buttons or studs-are detached, while the cords'soon become worn by abrasion, and losing their;
elasticity, have but an imperfect hold on the buttons,
so that the` ties are not retained 'in their proper'posif` tions, and are sometimes lost.
These objections are overcome by the use of the device above'described, the tie or holder being secured to the collar, either before or after the latter is at- `tached tothe Vbutton or stud, by passing the barb and its cord through the button-hole inthe collar' band, (or through a hole made in the band for the lpurpose,) so that the tie shall occupy its usual position, the bar b lying in a vertical position between the collar and neck-band, and efl'ectually preventing-the withdrawal of the loop or cord without abrading the latter, or in the least incommoding the wearer.
The tie "can be more readily applied when provided with'the device, than when furnished with the usual loop, and should the button or stud become detached,
the tie will still be retained in connection with the collar. v
The cordv may, if desired, be passed through both button-holes in the collar, and through. the buttonhole inthe neck-band; and the latter may be perforated at both ends for the passage of the bar and its cord, so that buttons or studs for securing the ends of the neck-band and the collar together may be dispensed with.- l
In place of: aV bar. a knot or a plate may be used.-
I claim, as my invention, and desire to secure byv Letters Patent-- The combination of a tie,`A, oratie or scarf-holder, a cord, a, and abar, b, connected to the said cord, substantially as and for the purposedescribed.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. l A
lHARRY HEINEMAN.
