Description

dint-ted gettate 4J. HYDErlsnnn,` or
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS;
Letters Patent No. 97,493, dated December 7, 1869.
IMPRCVEMENT IN FRUIT-BOXES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name Mmm To all whom c't may concern:
Be it known that I, J. HYDE FISHER, of Chicago,
f in the county of 000k, and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Fruit-Gases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact descriptionV thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and letters marked thereon, making a part of this description, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective representation of my improved fruit-case.
Figure 2, a horizontal section of' one cornerof the case, showing bow the boxes are held together.
Figure 3, a view of one of the rods used as a part The present invention relates to an improvement for fastening a series of fruit-boxes together for shipl ment ;v and Its nature consists in making two parallel sides of each box to project a little beyond the other parallel sides, whereby, when the boxes are sol placed, one above the other, that saidl projecting sides cross each other'at right'angles, vexternal and internal angleswill be formed to receive the rods, Which, together with suitable links placed over the rods between the` boxes, hold the casein a compact form, as hereinafter fully described.
C D represent a series of fruit-boxes, which have severally the same bottom area, and the ordinary slatted bottoms B B, 85o.
rIhe parallel sides of each box project over the other sides ofthe same box, as shown at gs. 1 and 2, and
when the boxes are put together to form'the case,
these projecting partsvcross each other, so as to form double internal angles, that the rods G may be held in place.
'lhe lower box is strengthened by cleats I, and through the ends of each of these outside cleats are made two holes, to receive rods G, which bind the boxes together.
In making up the case, the rods are held iirmly into the aforesaid external and internal angles, by means of links F, placed over the rods and between the boxes.
When all of the boxes are put together, a cover, A B, is placed over the upper one, and the ends of the rodsG clinched to the cleats A, two holes being made in the ends of the cleats, through which -the rods are put.
This method, for so binding several boxes together as to form a case, will be 4found very convenient and safe, and to answer well the purpose designed. Again, the labor can be done at,small cost, and by persons of ordinary skill.
Having thus fully described my invention, I do not claim the combining of boxes in a case..
What I claim, and desire to secure-'by Letters Patent, is-
A 'fruit-case, made up of several boxes or sections, when the same are combined, arranged, and secured together in the manner shown and described.
