Be it known that I, ARTHUR FRANKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of lVisconsin, have invented a new and useful Pocket-Case, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of the present invention to provide an improved construction of pocket case, such, for example, as employed in holdpocket combs andthe like.

luch cases as are now manufactured do not have their lower ends closed except for the thin leatherette lor other similar cover blanks, and the comb or other articles contained in the case in a short while will work its way through 4the lower end of the case, thereby rendering the same useless. Another disadvantage to be found in the present construction of such devices lies in the fact that the blanks comprising the same are so folded as to produce a thickened portion extending lengthwise of one side of the case, so that should it be desired to print upon one side of such cases, an advertisement, it is not necessary to handle each case separately and so dispose the same in the printing press as to present the thin side toward the type, and even then the printing is not perfect, quite a heavy impression being absolutely necessary in order to insure of the printing of all the characters describing the advertisement.

Vith the above disadvantages in view, the present invention aims to provide a pocket case of the character described which will not only be cheaper to manufacture than is the ordinary case, but will embody none of thel disadvantages mentioned, and which will furthermore be much neater in its appearance than the ordinary case.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the blanks from which one of the cases embodying the present invention is formed, the blanks being shownlpartly folded. Fig. 2 is a View similar to Fig. 1, but showing the blanks still further folded. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blanks in unfolded relation. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken from edge to edge of one of the cases when completed. Fig. 5 is a ylongitudinal. sectional view through one of the completed cases.

body blank and a cover blank, the former being of comparatively stiff material, and the latter being of leatherette, or Some other thin but ornamental material, and in the present invention, these two blanks are of counterpart form or outline, they being so connected as to be foldable to form a complete pocket case devoid of noticeable eX- terior seams.

At the outset, the fact will be readily appreciated that by having the two blanks of counterpart outline, there is a considerable saving in time, expense, and material, inasmuch as the same form of die may be employed for cutting both forms of blanks.

The body blank above referred to is indicated in general by the numeral 10, and the coverblank by the numeral 11, these two blanks being clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, which, as heretofore stated, is a plan view of the blanks assembled and before being folded. Inasmuch as the two blanks, as stated, are of counterpart outline or form, a description of one will suffice for both, and such description will be directed to the body blank, the parts of the cover blank corresponding to the described parts of the body blank being indicated by like reference numerals, with the addition of the suffix a. ,The body blank, as heretofore stated, is of some stiff material, such as cardboard, and is folded parallel to one longitudinal ed e, on the line A, to afford a portion 12, w ich constitutes one side of the case, and a'E portion 13 which constitutes the other side thereof, these two portions being of the same length and the same width. The portion 13 is formed at its longitudinal edge with a flap, indicated by the numeral 14, and this flap is secured by adhesive, as will be presently explained, to the edge portion of the other side of the case, or, in other words, to the portion 12, whereby the two portions 12 and 13 will be connected. The portion 13 of the body blank is further formed, at its lower end edge, with a tab 15, which will presently be more specifically described.

In assembling the body and cover blanks in preparing the case, the coverblank is glued or otherwise secured to the outer' face of the body blank with its portion 13a covering the outer surface of the portion 12 of the body blank, and its flap 14 covering a portion of the outer' surface of the portion 13 of the body blank, the portion 12 of the cover blank lying beyond the longitudinal edge of the portion 12 of the said body blank, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. After the two blanks have been thus connected, the flap 14 is folded down upon the inner surface of the portion 13 of t-he body blank, and the tab 15 of the said body blank is then folded in to overlap the lower end or corner of the said flap 14, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. After being so folded, the portion 12 of the body blank is folded down to cover both the flap 14 and tab 15, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and the tab 15a of the cover blank is then folded to overlap the outer surface of the portion 13 of the body blank at the lower end thereof, the portion 12a of the cover blank beinglfinally folded to overlap not only the tab 153, but also the outer surface of the portion 13 of the body blank and its own opposite edge.

It is to be understood of course that the several portions, flaps and tabs, of the two blanks are glued or otherwise secured in place as they are folded down, thereby to complete the case; and it will further be understood that the tab 15 of the body blank .effectually closes the lower end of the case,

and that inasmuch as it overlaps the flap 14, a comb or other article inserted into the case will not engage with its end, but, on the other hand, this tab will be lifted out of position for such engagement by the flap 14 being lifted through the insertion of the said comb or other article. To further insure 4against such engagement of the comb or other article with the tab 15, its inner corner is cut at an angle as indicated by the numeral 1G, and this cut edge of the tab eX- tends in a line running from the line of juncture of the tab with the lower end edge of the portion 13 of the body blank to a point coincident with the edge of the flap 14 of the body blank when the tab is folded to overlap the said flap, such construction being clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.

It will be readily understood, from the foregoing description of the invention, that the pocket case embodied in the same and formed as described, does not have aside which is medially thickened, as is the case in the ordinary construction of the pocket case, and that furthermore its lower end is closed by a portion of the thick body blank, so that a comb or other article carried in the case will not be liable to work its way through the said lower end thereof, and either become lost or render the case useless.

What is claimed is In an article of the class described, counter-part body and cover blanks, each of the said blanks having two portions of the same width and a relatively narrow portion integral with one edge of one of the first mentioned portions, and a closure tab integral with one end of the last mentioned one of the said two portions of each blank, the last mentioned one of the two said portions of the cover blank being secured to the other one of the said two portions of the body blank and the relatively narrow portion of the said cover blank being secured to the last mentioned one of the two said p0rtions of the body blank, the relatively narrow portion of the body blank being folded to lie against that side of the one of the two said portions with which it is integral opposite the side to which the relatively narrow portion of the cover blank is secured, the tab at the end of the said one of the two said portions of the body blank being also folded in upon the said side of the said portion with which it is integral, the tab of the cover blank being folded and secured to the outer side of the tab carrying' portion of the body blank and the relatively narrow portion of the cover blank secured thereto, the

other one of the said two portions of the cover blank being secured to and completely covering the said outer side of the tab carrying portion of the body blank and the tab and relatively narrow portion of the cover blank secured thereto.
