SUIT-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 24, 19 14.
Application filed May 27, 1910. Serial N o. 563,729.
To all wlom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAooB B. Mosns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Suit-Box, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pasteboard receptacles such as are adapted particularly for use as suit boxes, although the device of the present invention can be used for other purposes if desired.
One of the objects of the present invention is to improve the construction of box illustrated and described in United States Patent No. 942,733, granted to me on December 'r', 1909.
A further Object of the invention is to provide a pasteboard box of the character indicated with flexible binding means which 'is held against longitudinal displacement and is also covered or protected so as to be out of contact with the contents of the box.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of co-nstruction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification: Figure 1 is a plan view looking at the inside of the blank from which the lid of an ordinary suit box is formed. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawing.
The reference numeral 1 indicates an ordinary box blank which is intended to be folded along the dotted lines and suitably joined to produce a box member or lid. The member 1 is formed adjacent each end thereof with a pair of perforations 2-3 through which are extended the terminals l l of a cord or flexible binder, the intermediate portion 5 of which extends across the inside of the lid 1 between the openings 2 and 3. The openings 2-3 are at such a distance apart, that suificient material of the member 1 is therebetween as to resist the tearing when the lid 1 position, the termimaterial such for example as paper or'tape.`
This covering strip 6 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is looped over the binder 5 and extends m opposite directions therefrom as indicated at 7. Moreover the ends of the flexble strip are carried beyond the end portions of the binder 5 on the inside of the case and are secured adhesively to and coextensive with the blank 1 as indicated at 8. V Vhile I prefer to secure the strip 6 in position by gluing or pasting it to the lid` it is to be understood that other means of securing it in position may be used.
The covering strip 6 serves effectively to prevent longitudinal withdrawal of the binder 5. Moreover it prevents this binder from becoming tangled on the inside of the lid. The covering strip also serves to close the openings throughthe lid so as to make the lid as imperforate as the ordinary suit box in which the binder is wrapped entirely around the outside. Moreover, the binder prevents the fingers from being accidentally passed in between the intermediate portions 5 of the binder and the lid in picking up the lid from off a pile, and thus drawing the binder out of the lid. Finally, the covering strip serves to hold the binder and the contents of the box out of contact with each other so as to prevent any'chafing or wear. The covering strip also serves to Strengthen the portions of the lid l through which the terminals of the binder are passed and largely prevents the same from tearing or wearing at those points.
The box member of the present invention is strong, simple, durable and inexpensive in construction as well as thoroughly practical and eiicient in use.
What is claimed is A box forming member provided along its longitudinal edges with foldable wings and provided adjacent its ends with pairs of openings; flexible elements extended through the openings transversely of the box formthereof due to the cutting action of the cord.
Copies of this pate nt may be obtained for same, the keepers covering the intermediate portions of the fiexible elements completely and constituting` closures for the openings, the ends of the keepers termnating between the openings and the inner edges of the wings, thereby to prevent the openngs from Splitting outwardly toward the wings when the ends of the fiexible elements are united. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
