HOSE SUPPORT-BB.
APPLIOATION HLBD rms. 2a, 1910.

attendu H'UNITED STATES PATENT oEEioE.
CHARLES IAFMANN AND WILLIAM I-I. THOMAS,y OF OSHKOSI-, WISCONSIN.
. HOSE-SUPPORTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES KAUFMANN and VILLIAM H. THOMAS, citizens of the United States, residing at the'city of Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporters; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, Such as will. enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hose supporters.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a hose supporter in which the hose engaging member is capable of obtaining a more extensive and secure engagement with the hose than is possible with the engaging members now in use, whereby the liability of tearing the cloth or of the engaging member becoming disengaged therefrom is entirely obviated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, aswill be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the .accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the complete supporter;` Fig. 2 is a similar View of the hose engaging member with the movable clamping member in releasing position; Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section of the engaging member as arranged to clamp the hose.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of the invention, l indicates the hose engaging member and 2 the elastic. The engaging member, as shown, comprises a rectangular jaw supporting frame 3. The hose engaging member further comprises the clamping member 4; consisting of the hingedly connected sections 5 and 6, respectively, the former of which is provided with the looped extensions 7 at its opposite side edges, whereby it is hinged to the cross piece 8 of the supporting frame. Preferably the other section 6 of the clamping member 4L has a portion bent inwardly Specification of Letters Patent.

and upwardly then outwardly downwardly substantially as shown in Fig. 2 to form the clamping jaw 9 adapted to engage the cross f piece 10 of the supporting frame and clamp a portion of the hose therebetween. The section 5 of the clamping jaw is also provided with a guide or locking extension 11 of approximately U-shape form in cross section, the free end 12 of which extension is adapted to engage the outer face of the section 6 of the clamping member when the latter is in operative or hose clamping position, whereby the two sections of the clamping jaw are held against displacement inwardly. The extension l1 also forms a finger or thumb piece which facilitates the forcing of the jaw of the clamping member into engagement with the hose or other garment. The hose engaging member of the supporter is further provided with the pivoted bail 13 which receives the elastic 2.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that owing to the extended engagement which the clamping jaw has with the hose or other garment, any liability of the hose becoming torn or disengaged from the supporter is obviated, and particularly in view of the fact that the clamping jaw is absolutely smooth and is held against yielding or giving to the slightest degree when the parts are in operative position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construct-ion may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
A hose supporter of the class described, comprising an elastic and a. hose engaging member consisting of an open supporting frame, having a lower cross bar and a clamping member comprising a pair of hinged sections, one of which is formed with a clamping jaw adapted to engage the lower cross piece of the supporting frame and clamp a Set our hands in presence of two subscribing portion of the garment therebetween, and witnesses. En extension on the upper sectlon oi the CHARLES KAUFMANN. clamplng member adapted to enffzw'e the 5 other section thereof and form a stpowhioh WILLIAM H' THOMAS' limits the swinging movement of the two Witnesses: sections of the clamping member inwardly. CHARLES H. WILLIAMS,
In testimony whereof we have hereunto LOUISE RICHTER.
