Be it known that 1', BENJAMIN F. Ons- WILER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Garment-Supporter Clasp, of which the following is a specification.

The principal object of the invention is to provide novel, simple and effective means particularly intended for sup iorting hose and will effectively engage the hose without gathering the fabric at one point and without wedging and tearing it, the parts moreover being so constructed that a practically flat outer surface is produced which will not ongage adjacent laces and embroidery and tear the same or cause the holder to become unfastened.

The preferred form of construction of the supporter is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively cross sectional views on the lines 33 and 4 4 of Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the holding and locking members. Fig. 6 is a similar view of the base member. Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of a slightly modified form of base member.

Similar reference characters designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the structure illustrated in Figs. 1-6 inclusive, a base member is employed preferably formed of a single piece of sheet metal and having spaced terminal eyes 8 connected by a shank 9. The eyes are provided with elongated openings 10 to receive the tape or elastic 10. The shank 9 has at its lower end an outstanding bowed portion forming an outstanding article engaging loop. This bowed portion or loop comprises spaced legs 11 and 12, the leg 12 being narrower than the leg 11. Said legs are connected by a substantially ilat ca 13. r A holding member 14 is em loyed of substantially the same length as tie base member, said holding member being provided in its upper end with an eye 15, the opening 16 of which is elongated, and is designed to receive the tape or elastic 10. The lower portion of the holding member 14 has a socket or opening 17 through which the loop 1113 can freely pass. A glocking device 18 is slidably holding member 14, said locking device having overhanging flanges 19 that embrace the side margins of the member, it being also provided at its upper end with an outstanding lip 20 constituting an actuating device. The sliding movement of the member is limited by the outwardly curved end portions of the edges of the holding member. This locking device furthermore has depending downwardly divergent prongs 21 that are arranged to embrace the narrower leg l2 of the loop when said loop is in the opening 17 and the locking member 15 is forced downwardly.

While the structure as thus far described is complete, in actual practice, the loop of the base member is preferably covered by a cushion of rubber or other compressible material, the lower end of the holding mombor 14 being likewise covered with a cushion 23, and the prongs 21 are also preferably covered with cushions 124i.

In using the device, the base member is placed upon one side of the fabric, and the holding member is located upon the oppo site side. These members are then brought together, whereupon the loop will pass through the opening in the holding member, and the two members are then secured against separation by the locking device, which is moved downwardly until the prongs engage beneath the cap 13 and on opposite sides of the leg 1;.

While the structure maintains a firm hold on the fabric, there is no compressing or wedging of said fabric, and the bearing thereof against the loop is of a comparatively great extent. hiloreover laces, embroidery or other trimmings are not exposed to any prominently projecting parts.

instead of the elongated base member, as disclosed in Fig. 6, a short meml'zer may be provided, as illustrated in Fig. 7, in which terminal eyes 8 are employed connected by a shank, the entire shank being bowed to pro vide an outstanding loop 9. This loop, as will be evident, has a lower leg 11 broader than the upper leg 12. It will be evident that a loop of this character will cooperate with holding and locking members of the character above described.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, withmounted on an; intermediate portion of the out further dcscriptiongaud it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificin any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member formed of a single piece of sheet material having transverse openings m its ends forming eyes, and integral shank connecting the eyes and bowed outwardly to form an outstanding article-engaging loop that is disposed longitudinally between the eyes and is transversely unyielding, of an article -holding member that is movable into and out of coaction with the loop.

In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having an outstanding article engaging loop, one side of which is nari wer than the opposite side, of an article hom ng member that is movable into and out of coaction with and has elements that embrace the narrower side of the loop.

In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having an outstanding article-engaging loop. comprising spaced outstanding legs and a cap connecting the same, of an article-holding member hat is movable into and out of engagement with the loop, and a locking device mounted on the holding member and movable longitudinally downward thereon into and longitudinally upward out of coaction with said loop.

4. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having an outstanding article engaging loop comarising outstanding legs and a cap connecting the same, one of the legs being narrower than the cap and the other leg, of an airtcle holding member that is movable into and out of coaction with and has elements that embrace the narrower leg of the loop.

5. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having an intermediate outstanding article engaging loop comprising outstanding legs and a cap connecting the same, one of the legs being narrower than the other, of a swinging holding member having an opening therethrou h that receives the loop, and a lock slidab y mounted on the holding member and having spaced prongs that embrace the narrower leg of the loop.

6. In a device of the character set forth,

the combination with a base having an outstanding loop, of a cushion covering the loop, a holding member, a locking device having a portion slidably mounted on the holding ing member and embracing the loop, and cushions covering the prongs.

7. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having an outstanding loop, of a cushion covering the loop, a holding member movably associated with the base member and having an opening that detachably receives the loop, a cushion surrounding the lower portion of the holding member between the opening and its lower end, a lock slidably mounted on the holding member and having spaced prongs that embrace the loop, and cushions covering the prongs. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base having an outstanding article engaging loop, of a swinging holding member having an opening therethrough to receive the -loop, and a lock mounted on the upper portion of the holding member, said lock being slidable longitudinally of the member and having prongs free of said holding member and engaged on opposite sides of the loop.

9. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having an outstanding article engaging loop comprising outstanding legs, and a cap connecting the same, one of the legs being narrower than the other, of an article holding member including divergently disposed prongs that mbrace the narrower leg of said loop.

10. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a base member having terminal eyes, and a shank connecting the eyes and bowed outwardly to form an outstancing longitudinally disposed article e11- gaging loop, one of the legs of said loop being narrower than the other leg and than the outer portion of said loop, of an article holding member movable into and out of coaction with the loop, and a lock slidab-ly mounted thereon and including divergently disposed prongs that embrace the narrower leg of the loop and engaged beneath the outer portion of said loop.
