ANDREW ROGERS, 0F' WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent N 97,316, dated November 30, 1869.
IMPROVED SNOW-GUARD FOR ROOFS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
Know all men by these presen-ts That I, ANDREW Roenes, of Worcester, in th'e county of `XVorcester, in the State 'of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Snow-Guard; and I do declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.`
The nature of iny invention consists in the peculiar form and construction of the standards through which the rods that form the barrier or guard are placed, giving strength to the upright part, land an even bearing throughout the entire length of the foot.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and useA my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction more fnlly.-
In the drawings- A represents the wrought-iron standard.

The upright part of the standard is twisted half round at the angle D.
The standard is to be fastened tothe roof-boarding or rafters by means 'of nails or screws E.
By the foregoing description, it will 4be seen that the forni of the standard used in my snow-'guard permits the foot ofl the standard to have an even bearing on the Vboarding and slate under its entire length, thus preventing the breakage of slate byv'pressure on the upright part or rods, which frequently happens where the tbot of standard is straight.
The twist of thestandard at the angle D prevents any ordinary pressure from breaking or bending `the guard. Its simple angular form permits its being used at any distance from the eaves of the roof, as well as directly at the eaves.
