To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EUGENE FAGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vhittier, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Work-Supports, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to work supports, j and more particularly to supports for holding a tray or other receptacle for paper wrappers, such as fruit wrappers; and the invention has for its object to provide improved work supports of the general character set forth which will be superior in oint of simplicity and inexpensiveness of construction and organization, facility of attachment and detachment and manipulation, positiveness in use, convenience in service and general efficiency, and which will be i generally superior in point of serviceability and adaptability to varying conditions of service.

The invention which is particularly adapted for supporting a tray or receptacle for paper wrappers for citrus and other fruits, in convenient position for selection of successive wrappers in packing the fruit, conconstruction, combination and relative arrangement of parts, members and features, all as hereinafter described, shown in the drawing, and finally pointed out in claims.

In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a front elevation of a box stand, howing a fruit box in position thereon, and a portion of the box bin, the improved work support constituting the invention being connected with the box stand; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a topplan view of the work support shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the same being upon an enlarged scale; Fig. 4k is a fragmentary view, upon an enlarged scale, of essential features of the improved work support, the same being broken away for clearness of illustration; and, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of construction of the work support.

Corresponding parts in all the figures are denoted by the same reference characters.

Referring with particularity to the drawfigures therein, the improved work support comprises a bracket 1 in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, and 1" in Fig. 5, which is connected withthe box stand 2 adjacent to the top thereof, as at 2*, the bracket 1 having a bowed formation comprising spaced 1 upper and lower lateral projecting

5 and 4 and a connecting central ortion 4:, while the bracket 1" of the modified form shown in Fig. 5 is of straight formation and provided at the top with a ca piece 1 which supports the remaining eatures of the invention, as hereinafter described, in the same manner as the portion 5 of the bracket 1, such remaining features being common to both forms of construction. Project-ing upwardly from the bracket portion 5 and from the cap piece 1 is an elongated pin or bearing 9, and the

1 or 1 is so connected with the box stand that the bearin 9 projects above the same at one side thereof substantially at right angles with relation to the inclined top surface of the box stand, such inclination being clearly shown in Fig. 2, the fruit box 3 being placed upon said inclined top of the stand prior to the packing operation, which latter comprises withdrawing the fruit from the bin 13 and wrapping the same successively in wrappers formed of blanks or sheets 14 telnporarily held in or supplied by a tray (3 adjustably and detachably connected with the pin or bearing 9. The adjustable connection of the tray 6 with the bearing 9 permits of the swinging of the tray over one end of the fruit box, when filling the other end of the latter with packed fruit, and also permitts the swinging of tray outward clear of the fruit box so that the latter may be turned end for end when the initial end has been packed. This turning of the box end for end is facilitated by the bowed formation of the bracket 1. above described; and the angularity of the bearing 9 with relation to the inclined top of the box stand 2, together with the formation and relation of the means for connecting the tray with the bearing 9, provides for sustaining the tray in a position of forward inclination equivalent to that of the top of the box stand.

One or more plates or arms 7 are connected with the tray 6 at a predetermined corner thereof, and knuckles or sleeves 7 project therefrom and loosely surround the bearing 9, so as to turn freely thereon and pivotally support the tray. 10 and 11 with which a plate or plates 7 is or are brought into engagement, alternately, as the tray is adjustec toward or over, or away from, the box 3, for the purposes above set swinging too violently against the forth. Mounted upon or fixed to the bracket portion 5 or the cap piece 1 is a cam plate 12 over which one of the plates 7 a rides as the tray is swung pivotally upon the bearing 9; said cam plate being formed to temporarily hold the said plate"? and the tray with its wrapper blanks 14, in position of adjustment toward or over or away from the box 3; and said cam plate co-acting with the plate or plates 7 prevents the

10 and 11. A detachable cap or nut 8 may be applied to the upper end of the bearing 9, by screw threads or otherwise, preventing inadvertent detachment of the tray from the bearing 9.

A paper holder 15 is provided at the inner side of the tray 6, and serves to yieldingly hold the paper therein. The tray 6 may be thrown upwardly upon the bearing 9 into the position shown in dotted lines superposed with relation to that in full lines, in Fig. 2, and may be there held 1nanually during manipulation of the box 3 or during any shifting of the position of the latter which is facilitated by increasing the clearance of the tray with respect to the box.

Havin thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. An improved work support, comprising a bracket, a bearing upon the bracket, a

work tray, a knuckle connected with the Work tray and loosely surrounding the bearing, stops limiting the adjustment of the work tray in either direction, and temporary holding means for maintaining vthe work tray in positions of adjustment.

8. An improved work support, comprising a bowed bracket, a bearing projecting from the upper end of the bracket, a work tray, knuckles connected with the work tray and pivotally surrounding the bearing, stops limiting the pivotal movement of the work tray in either direction, holding means for maintaining the work tray in positions of pivotal adjustment.
