IMPROVED HEAD-B-RACE FOR COFFINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 96,581, dated overnber 9, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH GAWLER, of
The nature of vmy invention consists in applying a brace to the upper and head end of a vsquare-headed wooden burialcase, to keep the head of a body in proper position -and oblviateA the necessity for its readjustment, whether from transportation or other causes.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The head-brace a is Vcut out of proper stuff, in shape similar to that represented in Fi g. 2.
It is then fastened in any suitable way to the upper portion of a square-headed coffin of corresponding dimensions to receive it, and, when properly upholstered with hair, cotton, or
other material, not only preserves a ixedness of position to the head of the body, but imparts a finish and symmetry peculiar to this invention. I
