Specification of Letters Patent. Pmilgigmtied July 26? 191m,
- .application led July 311, 1909. Serial No.` 510,587.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it knownthat ll, CHARLES ToMrsE'rr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Umaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have inventeda new andv useful Collar-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.
My invention relates to collar'l fasteners; myl more particularl purpose beingl topro vide a flexible, reversible collar fastener',
,constructed of a single piece of material,
indicate corresponding parts in `all the.
,V1eWS. x
Figure l shows my improved collar fastener' attached to a shirt band and collar, parts of the collar being broken away to show the underlying parts; Fig. 2 is a View similar to Fig. l, showing the collar removed; Fig' is a sectional View taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. l; and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of my collar fastener. A
Attached to the shirt bandAY of the shirt- B by means of the collar fastener' 'C is a collar l), having therein a tierFJ'.' Referring to F ig. 4 of the drawings, the collar fastener C, being preferably made of one piece -of material of a flexible nature, consistsl rof a.- body F having integrally attached thereto acentral tongue G, the tongue G `being partly separated from the body F by a slitl-ll, approximately shaped like an inverted horseshoe. 0n the lower part of the body mediate the lateral projections is a larger tongue J, being semi-elliptical in shape and integrally connected with the body F the collar fastener C. Y
To aliix my collar fastener C to a shirt band A, the'said collar fastener C is placed beneath theouter flap A of the shirt band i A, Vbetween the flapsA and A2 of the collar band A."- rQllhe central tongue G of the collar 'a compact joint, thereby preventin lundue wear and adording great com ort to fastener C is then passed through the but ton hole A3 of the shirt 4band A, so that the said tongue G projects through the buttonhole A3 and lies on the outer ll'ap A of the 4Jshirt band A. The lower tongue will then project from between the flaps A and A2, of the shirt band A, and also be below the .button-hole A3 of the band A likewise being below the edge of the said. shirt band A. By passing the tongue J through the buttonhole DS-of the inner llap D of the collar l),
the tongue .l will lie between the said flap D and theflap D2 of the collar l), thereby holding the collar D securely to the'shirt band A of the shirtB.'
llBy securing the collar to the shirt band .with myV collar fastener as mentioned hereinbefore., .the collar is prevented absolutely from riding the shirt band. Furthermore the colla r fastener being flexible will readily conform to the shape ofthe neel and form any the wearer. My collar fastener is reversible, can easily and quickly be put on or taken oil", and conforms to the shape of the neck, thereby affording comfort and security and does not tear or wear out button-holes.
Although mycollar fastener is preferably "made of oelluloid, ll do'not wish to limit myself to this particular material.
Y Having thusq described myinvention, Il, claim as newv and desire to secure by Let ters latent '1. A collar fastener comprising Va thin,
flat, flexible plate having a tongue centrally disposed in a Ushaped opening in the plate, and a second tongue beneath the lirst-mentioned tonguefintegral'withthe said plate.
2. A collar fastener comprising' a thin,
flat, flexible plate having a'tongue centrally .disposed in the plate in a lll-shaped opening in the same, and a second tongue beneath the first-mentioned tongue, the said tongues being adapted to be moved transversely to either side.
ln .testimony whereof l have signed my naine-to this specification inthe presence of two suliscribing witnesses.
i CHARLES .TQMPSETD W itnesses ANNA C. KOCRNIK, Guo. A. MAGNEY.
