To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDREAS FAssLER, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Immenstadt, Bavaria, Germany, have invented Improvements in and Relating to Trestles, of which the following is a specification.

The subject of the present invention concerns improvements in and relating to trestles.

The essential features of this invention consist in the provision of replaceable and interchangeable cross bars, whereby the trestle can be used for painting windows and like purposes, and in the provision of a removable rack whereby the bench can be used for rope-making and like purposes.

In order that the invention may be clearly understood reference is made to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figures 1, 2 and 3 are front, side and plan views respectively of a trestle. Figs. 4 to 7 show details, while Fig. 8 shows the trestle when folded up.

The upper plate a of the trestle is provided with integral downward and out wardly projecting side walls a and o The U-shaped or similarly shaped pairs of legs 7), b and c, 0 are carried by said side walls. The legs are revolubly mounted on said side walls by means of rivets e and (Z respectively and in such a manner that when the legs are folded up (Fig. 8) the legs Z) come to rest over their counterparts 0. Pins 7' are provided and are adapted to project through suitable holes in the side walls a a and the legs I), Z) and c, 0 respectively, whereby the legs are kept rigid when the bench is being used. The plate a is fitted with three slots 9 which are adapted to receive the studs 2' integral with the bars h. lVhen inserting the stud i the bar it is held in the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 3 and is then turned around 90, whereby said bar is retained in position. The latter being firmly secured by making the neck 70 of the stud of a slightly oval or simi lar cross sectional area whereby said neck presses tightly against the Walls of the slot.

To adapt this trestle for rope-making and like purposes, the provision is made of a rack Z or the like which is secured by studs similarly to the cross bars Z2 with the difference that the rack is adapted to lie longitudinally of the trestle when being used while the bars are arranged transversely. Said rack is connected with the plate a by means of the stud 2' which is inserted in the central slot 9 of said plate a, and is formed of a plate Z provided with a suitable number of integral perpendicular pegs m or the like.

All the parts are made of iron or the like, thereby forming a very stable article for use when painting and glazing windows, ropemaking or like purposes.

After removal of the bars or rack the trestle can be adapted for any purpose fulfilled by trestles of the known type. The pins f can be fastened to the plate a by small chains, if desired, so that said pins cannot become mislaid.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s 1. A trestle, comprising in combination, a slotted, upper plate having perforated side walls integral therewith, perforated legs revolubly attached to said plate, pins nor mally passing through said legs and said side walls, and one or more supporting members, each of the latter having a stud adapted to pass through and be secured in a slot in said plate.

2. The combination, with a folding trestle having a slotted upper plate, of two crosspieces each carrying a stud detachably secured in the slots in the plate, substantially as shown.
