Description

lIO
UNITED V STATES vPMENT OFFICE.
SAMEL G.. MONCE, OF'BRIS'IOL, CONNECTICUT.
COMPARTMENT-CASE FOR lNTERCHANGEABLE LOCK-STENCILS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,086, dated November 15, 1887.
Application led May 17, 1887. Serial No. 238,464. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, SAMUEL G. MoNcE, residing at Bristol, in the county of Hartford and State ofConnecticut, have invented4 certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Compartment-Cases for Interchangeablev l ping-package.
With these ends in view my invention consists in a box adapted in depth for the stencils to stand upright in it, and a core located in such box and parallel with the bottom and cover thereof, and having its opposite edges transversely slotted to receive the stencils.
My invention further consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of acase embodying my invention with the cover removed. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof with the cover and stencils removed, and Fig. 3 is a view of the case in vertical central longitudinal section with the cover in place. y
The box A is of oblong rectangular form, provided with a cover, B, and made of sufcient depth for the stencils Cto stand up in it. The upper edges of its sides are provided with characters corresponding to and identifying all of the stencils, such characters being concealed and protected by the cover when the case is not in use and exposed to aid in the selection of the stencils when the cover is removed.
The core or rack D consists, as herein shown, of a strip of wood secured in the said box just below the center and parallel with the cover and bottom thereof, with a space above and below it, and having each of its edges intersected by a series of transverse slots, E, varying in depth or in their inward extension, and so adapted to the Width of the stencils, adapted in width to receive duplicate plates, if desired, sufficiently separated for the ready removal and restoration of the stencils, and arranged in alignment'with the characters aforesaid, so that the stencils may be selected by simply consulting the same.
If desired, the core may consist of a block, slotted as described, but made thicker and resting upon the bottom of the box.
A case made in accordance with my invention forms a compact and neat shipping-package for the stencils, and as a case is very convenient and saves much time from the facilities it offers of selecting the plates.
Having fully described my invention,\vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Aportable case for stencils having a box adapted in depth lto have the stencils stand upright in it, and a core located in such box and parallel with the bottom and cover thereof, and having its opposite edges transversely slotted to receive the stencils, substantially as set forth.
2. A portable case for stencils having a box adapted in dept-l1 to have the stencils stand upright in it and provided with characters identifying them, and a core located within such boX and parallel with the bottom and oo ver thereof, and having its opposite edges provided with transverse slots varying in depth and arranged in alignment with the characters on the box, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I sign this specificationl Witnesses:
Crus. B. SHUMWAY,
WM. L. BARRETT.
