" Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1918 Application filed January 22, 1918. Serial in. 213,238.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR 'WERWATH, a
citizen of. the United States, and a resident of the city of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets, of which' the following is a specification. 7
My invention relates to improvements in cabinets especiallydesigned for use in conducting electrical experiments in the teaching of electricity, and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character, capable of eiiicient and convenient use by a comparatively large number of students.
lifhe invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings,
forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view looking at one side of a cabinet embodying the invention Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same,
Fig. 3, a perspective. view of a modified form of construction, and
Fig. 4, a vertical transverse section of th construction shown in Fig. 3.
lhe form of construction illustrated in ran ed to coiiperate together to constitute gui es for a plurality of mounting bases 01' ports 10 and to permit of the ready removal or insertion of said bases from either side of the cabinet. The various bases 10 are equipped with various simple forms of electrical appliances, such as various forms of push buttons, switches, bells, buzzers, lights, etc., for performing thevarious electrical experiments in the course-of instructions in electricity. The table top 5 is also equipped with foldable extension leaves '11, hinged to the sides thereof and adapted to be folded downwardly or extended as indicated to increase the available top surface of the table top. w
,A supporting standard 12 is arranged centrally over the table top 5 .and extends substantially the full length thereof. lhis standard is equipped with a number of transverse openings 18 therein, adapted to receive the bases 10, and bases 10 are provided at their edges with flanges 14: adapted to fit against the outer faces of the standard 12. Buttons or swinging latches 15 are provided on standard 12 in position to engage over the flanges at the tops of bases 10 to secure said bases in place. A number of electrical terminals .16 are arranged across the top of each side of standard 12, and are suitably connected with electrical supply wires, to furnish electrical current of various characters, such as direct and alternating current and both of different voltages or potentials. Suitably marked plates 17 are arranged under the terminals 16 so as to permit of the ready identificationof the same for ready reference.
By'this arrangement it will be observed that the various mounting bases '10 may be kept in the table body 5, ready for use, and available from either side of the table, thus permitting of one or more students to exeriment at each side of the table with the ll equipment of the cabinet available for use.
i The form of construction illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings is the same as that already described, except that the upper standard in this instance is itself provided with upper and lowercabinet compartments 18 and 19, extending entirely therethrough and equipped on each side with sliding glass doors, giving access thereto from each side. Flanges 21 are arranged on the standard to extend outwardly beyond the doors 20 and are proportioned tov receive the bases 10 with the flan es 1e resting against the outer edges of anges 21, and buttons 15 are provided for securing the bases in place. By this arrangement it will be seen that different forms of appliances may be kept in the cabinet compartments from each side of the cabinet. Otherwise the construction and operation is the same as that already described.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carrying my invention into eflect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims:
