In making up the box in some cases it is desirable only to complete the body portion as shown in Fig. 2, leaving the extension 11 designed to form the head of the box fiat. lt will novv be evident that the user instead of receiving the box in the partially completed condition in which it is shown in Fig. 2 may employ the blank of Fig. 1 and bend it up to form a box at his convenience and may secure it around the umbrella or cane by tying instead of having the parts permanently glued or otherwise secured together. A great many boxes in the blank form may be conveniently stored and shipped in a small space. In other cases it is desirable to partly complete the box as shown in Fig. 2 and When so partly completed they still occupy a small space. YVhen the box body is permanently secured in position as shown in Fig. 2, the head portion may be rapidly completed in the manner above described to form a complete closure for the umbrella or cane and When it has been put together in the manner shoivn in Fig. 3 the head portion holds itself closed.

While I have shown certain specific forms of blank and box construction they may be considerably changed in practice and contemplate any changes which may be made Within the scope of my invention.

The drawing shows how my umbrella box accommodates an umbrella or cane in which a portion of the handle extends at substantially a right angle to the shaft. It will be evident that a similar box will accommodate an umbrella head having a looped or other handle in Which a portion extends laterally in relation to the shaft. I claim:

1. A paper box-blank comprising a body portion having several longitudinal creases so that it may be bent to form a relatively long box-body of angular cross-section and provided at one end With an enlarged portion cut and creased so that it may be bent to form an L of angular cross-section continuous With the aforesaid body and substantially at a right angle thereto.

2. A box-blank of corrugated paper-board comprising a body portion having several longitudinal creases so that it may be bent up to form a relatively long box-body and provided at one end With an extension to form an end closure and provided at the other end with an enlarged portion cut and creased so that it may be bent up to form a hollow L continuous With the aforesaid box body substantially at a right angle thereto.

3. A paper box comprising a long straight body portion of relatively small cross-section and a shorten portion joined to the long portion at one end at substantially a right angle; the Whole being adapted yto closely inclose an umbrella having an L- shaped handle.

4. A box for umbrellas or the like having L-shaped handles, formed of paper bent up to form a long body portion of polygonal cross-section and a head portion of polygonal cross-section joining the body portion at right angles, the head portion being provided with a member which may be opened to admit an umbrella or the like and thereafter closed.

5. A boxeblank of corrugated paper board constructed and arranged to be bent up to for-m au inclosure for an umbrella or similar article having a handle portion ext-ending laterally from the shaft, including a substantially rectangular body portion provided with a plurality of parallel longitudinal creases, an extension at one end of the body portion adapted to form a bottom end closure, and an extension at the opposite end of the body portion out and creased in straight lines so thatit may be bent up to form a head end closure of polygonal crosssection joining the body portion of the completed box substantially at a right angle.
