H. O. LEIGHTON. COMBINED BOX, EJEGTOR, AND COVER.
APPLICATION FILED 3AM. 28, 1910.

COMBINED BOX, EJECTOR, AND COVER.
Toall whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HUGH C. LEIsH'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and Ejector, and Cover,
useful Combined Box,
is a specification.
of which the following This invention i eiates to improvements inboxes, cases or packages adapted to contain cards or other viding a case of suitable material having one therefor.
In the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification,. Figiinproved box; Fig. 2 is a planview of the back side; Fig. 3' is a vertical cross section; Fig. 4 is a plan view of one form of the combined ejector and cover and Fig. 5 is a plan view of a different form of the improved combined ejector ,and cover.
Same reference characters indicate like parts in the several views. 4 Referring to the drawing 1 is a suitable casing open at one end. This casing may be made of any suitable material, eitherv rigid or flexible, that is adapted to contain cards, sheets of .paper or other small articles, a pack of cards 2 bein shown. The ejector 3 is adapted to pass t rough an opening 4 --in the back side of the case and is secured tothe inside of the cover 5 preferably at a point 6 some distance from the extreme-edge of the cover, so that a portion of the cover projects down below the opening in the side of the case forming a complete seal for said opening. The cover then passes up the side over the end and down the front side ofthe case a suitable distance and is adapted to be secured to the case in any convenient manner, as for example, by a ball and socket fastening 7. The end of the ejector is secured to the inside of the front of the case as seen at 8. When the box contains a series I of articles, pencils, cigarettes or similar articles a portion of the ejector is made as wide as the casev as seen at 9 in Fig. 5, so as to extend entirely across the bottom of the case.
' The operation of my improved ejector and Specification ofhlette'rs Patent. Application filed annary 28, 1910. Serial N 0. 540,712.
When filling the boxarticles and consists in pro-.
opening in one side thereof, of

cover is as follows: the articles are placed upon the ejector and "forced down into the position shown in Fi 3 and the cover secured, the contents of the box tending to hold the flap of the cover to which the ejector is attached close to the bodyon that side. To remove the articles from the case the' cover is unfastened lifted off from the end of'the case and is further used as a hand hold to draw the ejector through the opening in the side. This causes the bottom of the ejector to rise in the box carrying with it the articles held thereby and this-is continued' until the articles are drawn far enough abovethe endof the box to permit of their ready removal.
Having thus described my invention and its use I claim v 1. In a box,'the combination with a body portion open at one end and having an openng in one side thereof, of a fiexlble cover having a body part and two flaps extending down the sides of'the body when the cover is closed, means for fastening one of said flaps to the body and an ejector of flexible material, one end of which is securedto the inside of. the box body, the other end passing through the openlng in the side of the box and secured to the-other cover flap so that said flap is held thereby close to the body of the box when the cover-is closed.
I 2. In a box, the combination with a body portion open at one end and having an i a flexible cover having a body part and two flaps, one of said flaps covering the opening in the side of the box when the cover is closed,
means for fastening the other flap to the body and an ejector of flexible material, one end of which is secured to the inside of the body, the other end passing through the opening in the side of the box body and secured to the overlying cover flap so'that said ,flap is held thereby close to the body of the box when the cover is closed.
