To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH IVoLLE, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Leipzig, in Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ferroconcrete Piles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ferro-concrete piles, and more particularly to the shoeing of such piles, the object of the invention being to provide improved means for the attachment of the pile-shoe.
According to the invention the pile-shoe is provided with holes or recesses for the ends of the longitudinal truss-bars, and with a boss on which is placed a. slidable plate or sleeve, tapered at its circumference, where it abuts against the truss-bars, so that by depressing the said plate or sleeve the lower ends of the said bars are pressed outward, against the walls of the recesses into which they have been inserted. The shoe is by this means clamped to the truss bars of the pile. A nut screwed on to the boss may be used for depressing the sleeve or plate, and the latter is preferably provided at its circumference with grooves for the truss-bars.
Two constructions embodying the improvement described are shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section of the lower end of a pentagonal pile, Fig. 2 a top plan view of the shoe, and Fig. 3 a plan of the clamping plate; Fig. 4 a plan view of a hexagonal pile-shoe with clamping plate and nut, showing the trussbars in section.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, the solid pile shoe [4 has holes I) for the lower ends of the converging truss-bars c. It also has a central boss (Z, which is screw-threaded at its upper part, and on which is mounted a clamping plate 0 having at its tapered circumference grooves g for engagement with the trussbars c. The plate 0 also has recesses h in its circumference for the passage of the concrete. The plate 6 is fastened down by means of a nut f screwed on to the boss d.

In a concrete pile the combination With the longitudinal truss members, of a shoe recessed to receive the ends of said members and having a screw threaded boss thereon, a clamping plate having bearing against the inner faces of the truss members and sliding on said boss, and a nut on said boss for pressing said plate toward the shoe into clamping position.
l. In a concrete pile the combination with the longitudinal truss members of a shoe recessed to receive the ends of said members, a clamping plate having projections with recessed ends bearing respectively against the inner faces of the truss members and means for pressing said plate toward the shoe into clamping position.
