P. & DJRORDORF. JOINING CLAMP FOR BUILDING PURPOSES.
No. 550,028 Patented Nov. 19, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL RORDORF AND DAVID RORDORF, OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
JOINING-CLAMP FOR BUILDING PURPOSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,028, dated November 19, 1895.
Application filed February 16, 1895. Serial No. 538,622. (No model.) Patented in Switzerland March 1, 1893, No. 6,161, and in Germany March 9, 1893, No. 71,520.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PAUL RORDORF and DAVID RORDORF, citizens of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Zurich, in the Republic of Switzerland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in J oining- Olamps for Building Purposes, (for which we have obtained a patent in Switzerland, No. 6,151, dated March 1, 1893, and in Germany, No. 71,520, dated March 9, 1893,) of which the following is a specification.
Our invention has relation to builders tieclamps for securing or tying together timbers, boards, or planking and for securing such together and to a support, as will now be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which' Figures 1 and 2 are sectional elevations at right angles to each other, illustrating the mode of using our improved builders tie or clamp in securing together contiguous edges of timber and the like and in securing the latter to a support, as an I-beam, which beam is omitted in Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the clamp. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 illustratea modification in the construction of the stem or shank of the clamp by a side and end e1evation and a top plan view, respectively; and Fig. 7 is a section on line 00 as of Fig. 5.
The clamp consists of a stem a, having at one end a foot I), adapted to engage the support for the timbers-as, for instance, the
I to facilitate the driving of the clamp into the timber, we provide the same with a drivinghead d on a line with the stem a and projecting from the prongs c. For some uses of the clamp we make this driving-head very narrow, as shown in Figs. 1, 5, and 6, and construct the stem at of a substantially polygonal form in cross-section, the apices of the angles being sharp, forming cutting-edges, so that said stem can be embedded in the edges of the contiguous timbers and the latter brought close together.
The construction of the clamp is very simple and said clamp is very efficient in use.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A builders tie or clamp consisting of a shank or stem having at one end a foot I) at right angles thereto, diverging sharp ended prongs 0 near its other end, and a driving head (I projecting centrally from and beyond the prongs, for the purpose set forth.
2. A builders clamp consisting of a shank or stem polygonal incross-section, the apices of the angles being cutting edges, a foot I) at one end of said stem, and diverging prongs at its opposite end, said prongs terminating in cutting edges, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we hereunto sign our names, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 26th day of January, 1895.
PAUL RORDORF. DAVID RORDORF. Witnesses:
H. LA CHART, E. BLUM.
