UNTTED STATS FATENT FFTCE.
HERMAN G. BLANKENHAGEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MATCH-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN G. BLANKEN- HAGEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates more particularly to an improved form of match holder which may be used in connection with ordinary boxes of matches in such a manner that the box cover can be removed, leaving the box to form a magazine for supplying the matches to a convenient point in the holder for removal as they are to be used. \Vhile it is preferably used in connection with the ordinary match box, it will be seen that the holder might be used by filling the upright part with matches which would be delivered gradually to the outlet point.
The objects of this invention are to provide a simple and eflicient device of this character which can be cheaply constructed.
Although it may be made in different forms, I prefer to manufacture the holder of pasteboard or some similar material, the complete holder being formed of one single blank.
I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 represents a front view of a match holder embodying this invention; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional elevation showing a match box inserted in the holder with matches ready for delivery; and Fig. 4: represents the blank from which the holder is preferably formed.
As shown in the drawings, the holder comprises a vertical receptacle 5 which is adapted to receive a box of matches as indi-- cated at 6 in Fig. 3, the cover of the match box having been removed, as may be done after the box is inserted in the holder. At the bottom of the receptacle 5 is a front opening 7 communicating with a forward projection 8 from which the matches may be removed singly or as desired, this for ward projection being open at the top. It will be observed that, as the matches are re moved from the projection 8, the supply will be replenished by the weight of the matches in the upright box 6.
The holder may be conveniently supported on any convenient nail or tack, which may Specification of Letters Patent.

project through a hole 9 in the back of the holder.
While the holder as thus described may be made in any convenient manner, I prefer to form the same of a single piece of material formed as shown in Fig. t and bent and fastened together as indicated in the drawings. The blank 10 has a portion 11 adapted to form the back of the holder and another portion 12 adapted to form the front of the holder when bent as indicated on the dotted lines. The parts 1313 will then form the sides, the outer ones being connected by a tongue 14 which enters into a slit 15 as indicated. The bottom of the holder is made of double thickness, the bottom layer being formed of the parts 16 and 17 which, when bent up on the dotted lines, may be secured together by the tongue 18 which fits in the slits 19. The top layer of the bottom of the holder is formed by the portion 20 which is bent up at right angles to the back 11 and is integrally connected with the part 21 which forms the front of the discharge portion of the holder. Side wings 2222 connected with the part 21 are provided with tongues 23 which engage in slits 24 in the sides 13 and thereby hold the bottom 20 and the front 21 in position.
As thus described, it will be seen that the complete holder is formed of a single piece of material and can be easily and cheaply constructed. Furthermore, this arrangement greatly facilitates shipping of the holders, as a large number of blanks or forms, such as shown in Fig. 1, may be packed together and will only occupy a small amount of space in comparison with the completed holder. Likewise, there will be little or no danger of breakage in shipment, and the blanks can be readily bent up to form the holders after reaching their destination.
It will be noted that the form of the box may be changed without departing from the spirit of this invention, but what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a match holder formed from a single sheet or blank, having a supply receptacle with a lateral discharge opening at the bottom; and a chamber from which the matches may be removed, communicating with said opening, the bottom, front and sides of said chamber being formed from a projection extending from the back of said receptacle, said bottom being also reinforced with connecting strips extending from the sides of said receptacle.
2. A blank for a match holder, comprising a back portion, an extension on one side of said back portion for partially forming one of the sides of the holder, an extension on the other side of said back portion for forming the other side of the holder, the front thereof, and for completing the first named side of the holder, the side-forming portions of said last-named extension having projections adapted to form a reinforcement for the bottom of the holder, said 15 said bottom to be reinforced by the reinforc- 2e ing strips above mentioned.
